2012 VW Jetta SportWagen TDI won't start

Car has been parked since Saturday afternoon, and would not start on
Monday evening. High temp was only about 20 degrees F today. The engine
tries to turn over, but very slowly. The dash display was flashing a few different
error messages , steering column locked, and something about needing to put
the car into park or neutral.  While the engine was slowly and unsuccessfully
trying to turn over, the doors were locking and unlocking themselves.  
Wondering if this is a low battery issue?  I have not tried to jump it, going to
wait until tomorrow morning.

How old is the battery? That high compression engine will need a lot of power to turn it over- if it is over 2 years old, just buy a new battery- a big, bad, battery-

My 2014 Jetta Sportwagen battery only lasted 2 years. After my car sat for a cold week in February this year, it would not start... turned over, but slowly. I charged it and started it... went and replaced the battery and no issues since. Now it starts right up... quickly!
