My Dodge Magnum 3.5L V6 requires ATF4 transmission fluid. My mechanic installed a universal fluid and I found out at the auto parts store it only covers up to ATF 3. I now feel slippage and he claims it's the tranny not the fluid.

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
Recently had transmission serviced with a universal fluid instead of the required ATF 4. My trans seems to be slipping at low RPM in the 25 to 30 mph range. is it the tranny fluid.

It could be. have the level checked first to make sure its not low.
Why would one not put in the recommended transmission fluid in?
Magnum has 114,000. I only changed the fluid because it was recommended in the manual. Was running just fine before the service. Car starts to 'Lurch and slip" at the 25 to 30 mph range. I have since been back to the mechanic and he showed me a Mfg. Spec Sheet which says his product covers Chrysler ATF-4. Car is going into the shop tomorrow.
O.k. you had a car that shifted nice before the transmission service and Now it doesn't afterwards? Not cool!
Hello...my 07 magnum has the exact same problem now...what do I do....,??? Thanx in advance
