why is my tranny slipping

Asked by GuruMK9ZR May 24, 2020 at 07:47 AM about the 2005 Dodge Neon SXT Sedan FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

trans line loose connection at radiator cause  engine coolant n trans fluid to
mix together and flood entire system. pink gunk everywhere. Changed
radiator , thermostat. removed trans pan , drained fluid , changed filter. trans
bucking and slipping on upgrades, seems to be worse at 55 to 60 mph on
highway upgrade shifting to Overdrive. water pump failed / leaking. Changed
that. Now that all that is fixed seems trans SLIPPING is worse on HIGHWAY
upgrades at 55 to 60 MPH. I must say , I dropped TRANS pan again and
new filter was pink. I am going to chng that again and add fresh
fluid.Anything else it could be ? solinoid , speed sensor , ? ? ?

When coolant migrates into the automatic transmission via the cooler lines it is imperative that once detected, the vehicle should not be continued to be driven, and the transmission fluid flushed from the trans a few times, not just a drain and fill. Reason being is the clutches inside the transmission will absorb the coolant and swell effecting the operation of the transmission. Since your vehicles transmission is still slipping, no amount of fluid changes will help. You can try changing the fluid again to see if it helps, but you might be rebuilding the transmission or replacing with another used one in the near future.
