ABS & Traction Idiot Lights ON

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I'm having the same problem 2012 Jeep Wrangler Sport. My ABS and traction lights always come on & off while driving. Replaced the right rear wheel speed sensor (cost WAY too much at the dealership but that's what they recommended). Still have the same problem.  Especially if I hit a pothole or speed bump.  Ideas?  Never trust a dealership :(

It could be a bad wire. I would have it scanned for ABS codes. This would let you know which side, which wheel is having the problem. Most of the time it is in a wire from the plugin at the wheel sensor on up. Example. On my car ABS and TC light was on. I scanned to see what the problem is. It said a wheel sensor on a side I already replaced the hub assembly on. But I have a good scanner and it also said to look for broken wire. I tested the wiring up from the plugin of the wheel sensor and found a bad section. The wire was all in-tacked, not broken, I replaced that section of wire and fixed the problem. The section of wire I took out did not have continuity due to corrosion,

I have had two Wranglers. The first had so many problems that the dealership was unable to repair that I traded it in two years ago. BIG MISTAKE the 2016 has a lot of issues that the dealership, Peacock, is unable to fix permanently. ABS is an ongoing problem and there is no warranty on a two year old car? Last jeep I will ever purchase and will definitely discourage others! Recently the heater stopped working it was close to $400 to repair! I have had a lot of vehicles in my life and have NEVER had to have a heater repaired or replaced regardless of make of car. Why isn't Jeep doing something about the numbers of complaints!!

The idiots light come on and stay on in our 2008 and 2010 Jeep Libertys. My wife found the best way to solve the problem is: Put the key in the ingnition and turn the car over immediately. That stops the problem. I’ve been use to turning the key so power gets to the fuel filter to prime it before turning the car over. That or even a slight hesitation in turning the key through the start cycle will cause the idiot lights (ABS, Traction Control, Low tire sensor) to stay on and make some of those systems inoperative. It’s a pain but it works. Just crank it over without hesitating once the keys in the ignition.

I replaced all wheel speed sensors and found that my rear outer seal was leaking. Removed the axle and replaced the seal and bearing ABS light went away. If the speed sensor is dirty or caked in grease it will not work. Check you rear seals.

Mine wasn’t even a sensor in the wheel. It was an “internal engine problem”. Sounds crazy but it fixed it and it worked for 2 years but then it did it again. It also made it like my transmission was going out. It was all part of that abs engine problem.

Needing help!! 3 months ago my kids and I were going down the main highway when the abs light, traction control light and brake light turned on and my Jeep Wrangler stalled on us in the middle of the road. Dealership said it was the rear sensors. They have been changed 4 times, plus the wheel bearings, new brake pads, and new pigtails. Nothing has changed, recently brought it up the dealership on a trailer and they are trying to say it’s the rear sensors again and trying to charge us almost $700 to replace them.

Abs light intermittently coming on is usually the Clock Spring in the Steering Column. Should be covered under Chrysler warranty. Mine is 2012 Sahara; same issues; fixed now.

I bought a 2014 Wrangler sport. First day out with the car the ABS/TC lights came on. I brought it back and they “fixed “it. Short time later the same thing. Brought it back and they replaced the left rear axle. Short time later it started again, I brought it in and this time tHEY replaced the entire assembly on the right rear wheel. Here I am with that happening all over again, only this time it started, got real bad, stayed on for a very long timeThen finally went away. the light comes on once or twice a day and only stays on for 30 seconds or so and then goes off. I have yet another appointment which will be number four. Last time out they had the gall to charge the secondary insurance I bought on the car and try to charge me the $200 deductible… Needless to say that never happened!. So, being a first time Jeep owner, and otherwise loving it, am I to expect this to be an ongoing thing,Or is there any light at the end of this tunnel?

My 1998 Jeep Wrangler Sahara drives good but the RPM, MPH will drop to zero. At the same time the AIRBAG light comes on, after Maybe 1 minute it all starts working again. This doesn’t seem to effect the driving of the jeep. Do you have any idea what’s causing this and what I need to do?
