ABS and Traction Light on - possible cause and solution?
Asked by ohiou_2k Aug 17, 2017 at 11:46 AM about the 2012 Jeep Wrangler
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
While driving this morning, both the ABS and Traction lights came on. Initially it didn't seem to cause an issue until the Traction Light started to flicker on and off. When that happened, the vehicle practically slowed to a stop and switching gears/hitting gas had no affect on speed. It stopped and I made it to my destination, but I have an appt. at a dealership to have this diagnosed and fixed (under extended warranty). Would like to have some possible causes and solutions before I hear what the dealer says.

You might be able to just pull the abs fuse for short term fix, but it sounds like air in the solenoid.
Hi did you ever figure out the problem I'm having same issues Thanks
I’m having that issue. Help

Having Exact same issue ... did they ever resolve your problem?
Me too dang! I guess there ain't no fix for this then if all y'all still driving round with it like this. My mechanic is going to troubleshoot my problem today I just hope he don't tell me he needs to replace all of everything $$$. For me it happens when I first start the motor and drive out then the brakes come on by themself for short intermediate 1-2 sec intervals about 3-5 times then both abs and slick roads light comes on. After about 2-3 mins it goes away and drives fine. Also noticed brake fluid was slightly lower by about an inch adding brake fluid did not resolve it. I'll try to repost if I learn anything.

Mind does the same once it warms up have to manually shift to drive around
My 2016 Wrangler Unlimited does it too. Not often but at least 3 times in the past year. Dealership said they didn’t detect any issue at all while hooking up the diagnostic tool. I video’d it when it happened again a month or so later and showed it to the service rep who said that unless it shows up while they’re actually working on it (or on that diagnostic tool) they can’t do anything about it. The rep claimed it’s not a common issue. Starting to find that hard to believe since I keep hearing about it from other Jeeper’s.
My 2011 jku has similar issues. ABS,downhill assist and trac control lights come on at random time and go off a few secs later. My mechanic said it’s my wheel speed indicator on my right front wheel. It also does this weird brake thing where the brakes feel mushy, I’ll let off the break and press it again and it’s fine.
I failed to mention that the the brake pedal would feel that way at be once or twice a day if driving maybe 50-60 miles. The lights and the brake issue do not happen Simultaneously
