Question type: Maintenance & Repair

It’s at the shop engine fit fine but want start up my
mechanic knew the years and told me it would
work. Now I’m wondering how much more it’s
going to cost me to get it running or if it’s possible.

The engine will bolt up but won't run. The eternal parts are different. 2000 has 16 tooth toner wheel 2004 has 32 tooth toner wheel on crank inside motor. Also crank sensors have to match toner wheel. One would need all the electronics from the truck the motor came out of and still no guarantee. Did you get yours to work? I'm at 4000 bucks and ready to scrap truck. Was opposite for me. I tried to put late 2002 motor in my 2001 Dakota.

Hi Gene, it won't work with out all the electrical harnesses and computer from truck it came out of or you would have to drop crank from old motor and new motor, switch timing toner wheels along with changing sensors on the end of the camshafts. Needs to be a 2003 engine or newer. Late generation 2002 will work but make sure its the same as your engine. Just a straight swap will not work.
