Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I've got an 86 dodge ram
d150, v8 318, automatic, my
ignition Switch in my truck
went bad. I replaced it but I
done something wrong bc
now I can turn it on and it will
start runs perfect goes in
gear but when I turn the
switch back to the off
position my truck won't shut
off. I have to raise my hood
and take hot post off and
pull the alternator plug just
to get it to shut off. What did
I do wrong? Does anybody
know what I can do to fix this
problem? I'm so frustrated
someone please help me???

if you look inside the lock cavity I think you'll see a rack that the pinion gear on the end of the lock moves , the rack is the switch , it's important that the little gear (pinion ) goes back in the same place , you may be off by one or two teeth , your experience may differ
