Dodge dakota 2002 head gasket blown?

Asked by Caddy_2033 Jan 24, 2017 at 08:10 AM about the 2002 Dodge Dakota SLT Quad Cab 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Just want to figure out what is wrong with my
truck not sure if it is a blown head gasket or
maybe it is some other problem. But every time I
drive under 35mph, in traffic or at a dead stop
the truck over heats and the heater will go on
and off from blowing hot air to cold air. Lately it
has been mostly blowing cold air. Does anyone
have any suggestions? And am I able to take it
somewhere to find the problem without paying
them to just look at it?

Check the coolant level. The heater going from hot to cold, is either low coolant, or an air pocket in the cooling system. Try burping some the air out of the cooling system.
