Oil consumption

Asked by GuruBT8GB Dec 19, 2018 at 01:44 AM about the 2012 Subaru Forester 2.5X

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I too am going through an oil
consumption test. My problem is it
only uses less than 1/2 a quart every
1,200 miles when I drive from 35-55
mph. BUT when I drive down the 5 to
SoCal from Washington state at the
posted 65-70 mph oil consumption
shoots up drastically to 1/2 a quart
every 300 miles!!!  It takes almost 5
quarts to do a round trip from
Washington state to SoCal.  That’s
2400 miles. Is this because of a
higher rpm and a higher crankcase
backpressure?
