I've had this problem, and then it corrects itself. It seems to be toward the end of the summer when I'm running the AC and my wife wants a hot house on her side (lol)

The Youtube vid at the top of the google search has an answer! Just press the climate control power button and the defrost button at the same time, and then press the climate control power button one more time. Instantly worked for me!

Thanks! Problem solved just in time for the cooler weather. Must be a computer reset code of some kind.

Unfortunately for myself that did not resolve the issue I still have cold air blowing out on the driver side and heat on the passenger side I have tried various timing factors of the control button and D Frost has push instantly and release I tried holding for five seconds and released I tried holding for 10 seconds and release and I still have cold air someone else had mentioned that it could be the actuator door which is roughly $1600 to get fixed

Wow! That totally worked! I was taking her into the repair shop tomorrow for a AC re-charge. Thanks for the tip!

I have had this problem with both driver and passenger sides. Ford replaced the heat actuators twice on each side while under warranty. This one is going to cost me. I learned my lesson. FORD really does stand for fix or repair daily. This is my last Ford.

Thanks ShailCaesar1... That was easy. Did exactly what you said and it worked. Makes me wonder if I would of brought the car into the dealer, they would of used this trick and charged me a bunch of money????? I have another problem and maybe someone has a trick to fix this... my drivers side door lock doesn't work right (sometime it works and sometimes it doesn't). This happens when I use my remote as well as the inside switch. I have a 2012 Ford Edge... any ideas?

This trick totally worked!!! I'm sure a dealership would have charged me an arm and a leg to fix what I did in my pajamas in the garage.

Unbelievable!...Worked like a charm...Turned on the ignition without starting the car...pressed the dashboard "climate" button and the "defrost" button simultaneously and counted to ten (10)...Then pressed the "climate" button for a couple of seconds...waited two or three seconds and started the car...Had to turn on the AC, reset to "Max", etc. and VIOLA...cold air came pouring out of the driver's vents...The dealer would have charged my a fortune...Thanks to whoever figured this out.

it worked on mine for 3 days, but did it again and it worked.. have passively been looking for nother car... will be actively! :-)

I did the reset and my drivers side that was stuck on cold went to hot....and stayed there, lol. I did the reset a second time and now is functioning correctly. I noticed that when the system is resetting the ambient lights changed to bright white, cycled through a couple different levels of brightness, then went back to original red color. I could hear the actuator doors cycling through as it reset. Thanks for the advice!!!

Worked on 2014 Edge, today! Thank you!

Thanks, IT FIX IT! I did the reset sequence by pressing climate control and defrost at same time then press climate control again. This is the first problem we have had with our 2013 Ford Edge Limited and we bought it new.

20

Worked great on my 2012 Edge! Didn't have to select climate power button a second time. If U have a touch screen make sure U use the console buttons. On my console the defrost- fresh air button bottom right is the one I used.

How do you do this if everything is touch on my 13 Edge? It blows hot in passenger side and cold on driver side

when you are pushing these buttons, is it with the ignition off, switched on, or engine running. .

Hallelujah! Praise God this worked for me too. 2013 Edge Limited-Driver's side would only blow cold but the passenger side had heat. I powered on the car (full power, not just accessory power but not started), and used the dash board controls, not the touch screen, Touched the Climate Power button and the Defrost button at the same time, then the Power button again, started the car and tried it out. It worked like a charm!

Got a 2013 Limited and this recipe sadly is not working whatsoever for me. When I press both climate and defrost simultaneously nothing happens, then I press climate again and still no change. I get cold on drivers side and hot passenger side. Tried with car engine on and again with only aux power. Using push button, not the screen. What the heck???? Suggestions anyone... please!!!

I have had my Ford edge for going on three years. I have never had a warm front defroster. But thanks to the answer I have heat and defroster up front now. Thank you so much

Worked. Thank u sooo much u are so smart. My family and I were about to be riding around with blankets in the car until i could afford to get it fixed. Again thank u so much

Make sure you use the panel not the touch screen. Even "while I was driving" I held both the power and defrost down for about 2 or 3 seconds, let go, then pressed the climate button and boom. I have a 2013 limited edge so my panel power button is also the climate button. So held power/climate at same time as defrost, then let go for about a second and pressed the climate button again. A minor delay and it was working! As others said I heard accuater doors moving and it fixed a problem I've had for a while.

Ive had similar troubles. Good results by disconnectng the actuator "green" power plug on both sides (driver sde under dash near floor vent console) and (passenger side behind the glove box). Tried the "reset" trick here, did not appear to work. btw: there are actually four actuators with green power connectors. Unplugged and reconnected all four plus I did the control defrost trick. Not sure which worked but something has. This is third time its happened on 2013 Edge. What else can be done?

2011 for edge limited 3.5 heater worked fine and so did the heated seat. got back in it a few hours later and the heater wont blow and heated seats dont work. and now the ac light also flashes on and off. changed the blower, thats not it, all the fuses are good. any suggestions what may be wrong or how to fix it

1 people found this helpful.

wow @ShailCaesar1 you are an Angel!! I live in Houston, Tx and it doesn't get that cold here but this week it has been around 32 so me and my kids were freezing this week because the heat is blowing cold. I called the dealer today and they told me they had 40 cars ahead of me so if I dropped off today they would tell me the problem by Monday...smh and that my problem might or might not be under warranty so if it was I would pay $100.00 and if it wasn't $150.00 plus the amount to fix the problem. Thank god I read your post you fixed my problem in 5 mins and saved me money. Thank you Thank you

I have a 2013 Ford Explorer and I am having the same problem. I pressed the defrost and climate control button at the same time, held it for 10 seconds then pressed the climate control button and it is still not working. Should I be pressing these two button while it is off? That is what I am doing and it is still not working. Can someone please post the youtube link? I cannot find it. Thanks.

Thanks guys. Pressing the buttons didn’t work for me on a 2014 Edge Limited. But pulling out the green plug under the glove box worked instantly. I thought it would be hard to reach but it was quite easy and I am a 20 yr old woman that knows nothing about cars. Glad I saved money going to the dealership. I love the internet. Ps- pull the green plug for which ever side is not working right. Both front and passenger side has that green plug.

thanks 2012 edge limited second time this happened last time over 2 years ago paid bucks to fix because there was not fix for it before online. thanks pressed buttons when vehicle was turned on and worked like a champ. Canceling shop appointment.

Before I read this thread I had the same problem, with the vehicle running and climate control on auto, I raised the temperature to the max and then all the way to lo. On the way to low I definitely heard one of the vent doors "slam". So I did this several times, hopefully freeing up the doors. The next time it happens I'll definitely try the "reset" trick!

2013 EDGE Limited FWD. Used ShailCaesar1's suggestion and it worked. Thanks so much, as I can now cancel the auto shop appt to diagnose it for $$$$$. You are awesome!

I have a 2013 Ford Edge SEL and had the opposite cold/hot issue... After the summer, the first few days of cold weather, the heat blows on passenger side, but blows cold on driver's side. Did the Climate Power / Defrost combo reset trick. Did not work. Turns out I needed to reset the My Touch system by unplugging and putting back the power from the fuse box. Found this video totally unrelated to the heat/cold issues but worked for me: https://youtu.be/95so5wU4OBA

I have a 2014 Edge Limited and this worked great!!! I called Ford and they didn't say anything about resetting it they just wanted me to bring it in.

The power button and defrost button didn't work for me either. I guess I will have to take it into the dealership and get overcharged..Wish it would of worked.

Perfect fix. The dealer repair shop, Loveland Ford, should have told me that. Disappointed!

I have a 2013 Ford Edge SEL. Used the dash buttons (not the Sync screen) as shown in the photo from GuruTQXQX. It worked.

I have 2013 Ford Edge, living in New England I had to get the heater working. First blowing cold air on both sides, tried holding in the power and defrost at same time, released both, hit power button again, now had heat on drivers side only. Did same thing again and now have heat on both sides. Thanks for the help

I did what they said above in my 2014 Edge and it fixed the problem right away. just push the power and defrost button at the same time and then let off and push the power button again. I had to do it twice because the first time it's switched which side was hot and which side was cold and then the second time it made them blow the same. and of course if I change the temperature on one side of the other it compensates... thank you!!!

pressing buttons as instructed helped and fixed our heater problem on 2013 edge limited!!!!! got heater just in time for summer LOL!!!!!

Depressing climate control and defrost buttons at same time, then depressing climate control but again worked in 2013 Edge. Tried it several times before without hitting the climate control alone the second time but it didn't work. So that is a key. Also, I did it with the air conditioner off this time. Started the car again and put the AC on. That may have helped too. Now I have cool air blowing on both sides. Thanks for the suggestions everybody!!!

1 people found this helpful.

It worked! I am so thankful for your advice. I had to try it a few times and heard it click. I first had very hot air on drivers side and cold on passenger side. I needed both sides to be cold. Tried a few more times until I heard the flap on the passenger side move and BAM! Cold air on both sides. Thank you for saving me some money during these difficult times due to COVID.

I never comment on this stuff but this fix worked! I have a 2014 with my touch and all digital controls so it took a little longer than I would have liked... I don't have any physical buttons to push. My AC was stuck blowing HOTTER than hot air in the middle of Texas summer. I turned on the defrost and THEN held defrost and power down. This was key... if defrost wasn't on already it didn't work. (for reference I used the 'buttons' not the touch screen, the screen didn't work for this at all) I held both of those for about 3-5 seconds and then hit power. When I turned it back on it blew cold!! So glad I didn't take it to the dealer for this! Thought the digital control tricks may help someone else!

Thanks for the Fix. Worked well on my 2013 Edge Limited bought in May, though it didn't work with the buttons. I tried it on the MyTouch screen and it took right off. It was the same problem. Heat on passenger side and Cold air on drivers side. Not sure about AC yet. Temp here in MI only got to 56 degrees but felt Cooler.

this works for me.. but I need to do it every time i start the car.. any advice on a long-term fix?

120

Where is the “green plug” for the drivers side? I have tried to reset and can’t get my 2013 edge to do anything.

My mind is blown right now. I have 2013 edge SEL and heat stopped working on drivers side 2 days ago. I did exactly what it says above and it worked. Started my car, held down climate control and humidifier buttons at the same time for 4 or 5 seconds and then pushed the climate control button again. I instantly heard a faint click a couple times and voilà- Heat! Thank you so much!!
