Power steering and more. Please help with any info

Asked by LStenka Mar 10, 2018 at 05:39 PM about the 2001 Dodge Durango SLT 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Driving my Durango, suddenly the power steering
gave out. I drove it back home about 2 blocks and the
tensioner pulley is broken, idler pulley broken, oil
drained out! Please what could have caused this?

Hard to say without seeing damage, maybe the serpentine belt broke and whipped around and took out the oil filter. Or maybe road debris caused damage. Obviously without a belt you have no power steering. The real concern is loss of oil pressure, so don't run the engine at all until a mechanic has looked at it and fixed the damage. Starting the motor with no oil can cause serious damage to the engine.
