sometime when I close the trunk on 2013 Honda Accord, it would not close

Asked by duncanliza Jul 04, 2013 at 09:15 PM about the 2013 Honda Accord EX-L V6

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

It happened a few times that when I close the trunk, it pops open again by itself and give
out a few beeping sound. One time I have to start the car and turn it off again. The other
time I have to move the car ahead. What is the problem? How can it be fixed?

It's the new feature that keeps you from locking your keys in the trunk. I would check with your dealer since the car is so new.

Or is wife's purse or another set of keys possibly in there.

How close are you holding your keys to the trunk when you try to close it? Might try having them in the hand away from trunk when closing it.

For the trouble with not latching and giving 3 beeps: I have found that if you completely empty the trunk, then close the trunk it will latch. That is alll the dealer did to fix. There is some sensor in there that is keeping the trunk from latching. I then refilled the trunk and it was fine for a few months. It happened again, I emptied the trunk again and... voila!--it latches again.

You can also hold down the trunk for 10 beeps and it will remained locked. It is much easier to remove the car from the trunk or close it with your body sideways I'd it is detecting the let in your pocket.

I have been having trunc door issue with my 2018 Honda accord. Holding down the door for 10 beeps helped. It seems to happen first time in the morning. I did not see the issue the second time I had to open the door. Mark

I had the same problem, but emptying the trunk did not help. I ended up tossing my keys in the trunk and it finally latches and quickly beeped and unlatched. It has been fine since.

I found the suggestion to hold the trunk down for 10 beeps worked. I didn't want to unload my trunk.

I contacted the dealer and was asked if there was a spare key in trunk or I put my key in trunk. I did not . It was recommended to bring car in for check up. I think it is great that yu cannot lock your key in trunk. Many people do. But it is annoying when it won’t close. Next time I will try holding trunk closed for ten seconds

It would be good customer relations if the Honda Corp answered this problem

Emptying most of the trunk worked for me. Put everything back and trunk works normally. Gremlins?

You must be having your 2nd key in the trunk. Please remove that, it’ll close. This is a new feature that keeps you from locking your keys in the truck. Thanks!
