Will changing the back to synthetic blend fix
my check engine light

No. Your check engine light doesn't test the quality or viscosity of your oil. It might mean you're low on oil, which Terrain's go through about 1 Qt /1,000 miles -- CRAZY. Stupid. Should be a recall, Buuut... you have what you have. Until they finish the Class-action lawsuit you are stuck. Buy a lot of oil and maybe add a pint of Liqui-Moly to save your engine should it run too dry. Good luck. And btw: Have that light analyzed at Advance Auto for free. Or better yet, buy your own analyzer on Ebay for $15.
