what caused my o/d off light to come on and engine rpm s to climb while I was driving on highway?

Asked by ronnie839 Nov 28, 2016 at 10:35 AM about the 2013 Nissan Altima 2.5 S

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

On my Nissan altima (2013) the o/d off light came on while I was driving and I noticed the rpm s where running at 3500.  What caused it to do this?  I put it in neutral then back to drive and it was better and light went off but the engine rpm s went back up when I went down a hill a little ways down the road.

Mine did the same thing today on the automatic gear shift there is a button an the left I nice this turns that o/d off light on and off. Did not think I pushed it when it came on when I was on the highway though.

There is a small button on the left hand/driver side of the shifter itself. Press the button to toggle overdrive on or off.
