I need to replace the cvt transmission in a 2013
2.5i outback. Will any other model year fit or does
it have to be a 2013?

Contact your mechanic and see if you can get a refurbished replacement. I was told by my mechanic that there's some companies out there now who can offer a replacement with a 100,000 mile warranty for around $3,000. For $3,000 it's probably worth doing provided the rest of your car is in good shape, no rust, etc. Really depends on where you live. Here in Southern California, the bodies of cars can easily last 25 years or more. Look, $3,000 won't even pay the sales tax on a brand new vehicle.
