Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2013 Dodge Grand Caravan and it is getting horrible gas mileage.
i mean terrible bad. I only bought it 10 months ago and tried to tell the
dealership about it but i dont think they really cared. since then I've gotten
a fuel injection cleaning done and i've bought gas treatments. Nothing
really works. im getting 9-12mpg city/15-17 hwy. I see all the posts about
an ESP button but I dont know what that is or where it is. Im desperate to
get better gas mileage.. if not im going to have to sell the van. Also
someone mentioned synthetic oil but my 2013 takes a regular oil.. not
synthetic. Any advice anyone?

Normal range depending upon how you drive, loaded vehicle and hills. Consult the owner's manual for the ESP button.

Look- minivans are NOT known for being aerodynamic, and you've got a 3.6 engine. If you are that unhappy and don't use the vehicle for a lot of hauling, sell it and get something smaller.

but the van is supposed to get 17/24 and according to many of the people on the posts ive read thats what it gets at first.. but why does it just suddenly stop getting it. seems it does this to most everybody that owns one.

Ours is a 2012 with 80k miles. Our average between fill ups is 20-21. And that's a pretty good mix of highway and city driving. Fuel additives are worthless. Dirty injectors won't really effect mileage, they just cause the car to run poorly. Maybe your van isn't running through all 6 gears (assuming it's a 6 speed like mine is). If your lowest gear is 5th vs 6, that would make a significant difference. Have someone check your sensors and catalytic converter. The Converter went bad on my ram and the truck was literally dumping so much gas into the cylinders the engine would flood while driving. I'd have to shut the truck off and restart and the air/fuel ratio would go back to normal until I tried to accelerate again, like passing on the highway, and it would screw up again.

I had a 2013 Town and country and 60 mph I got 30 mpg without the cruise control. I think the secret is two fold; 1. a soft foot, 2. Mobil 1 (synthetic oil). My first use with Mobil 1 was with a 1977 Dodge Aspen station wagon 225 slant six. Epa was 18-23 mpg. I kept track of everything and for most the time I got an average of 28 mpg but on a road tip from Arizona to Indiana I got over 31 mpg. I used Mobil 1.
