Asked by casperuno Feb 15, 2014 at 10:14 AM about the 2000 Dodge Stratus ES Sedan FWD

The temp here has been in the mid to high 40's for the last 6 days, I pulled the plugs and cleaned them and put them back in and remove the excess gas on them and reset the gap and replaced them. when I turned car over the engine tried to start but wouldn't start. It sounded like it wanted to but just wouldn't. One of my mechanic friends said to put a few shots of oil in the cylinders to help reseat the rings to build up more compression, he said he's seen that happen sometimes during cold snaps, haven't tried that yet, any other suggestions???

First check to see if it getting fire. if its firing then check timing,. then the coil . . And you can check fuse. One other thing, pour a little gas in. that will know the fuel pump is working, if everything esle fells (short cuts without tools)

Your car has coil packs, the wires to spark plug don't come from a rotor. Have someone listen at the engine with the hood up and listen for a snapping sound, like loud static electricity. the coil packs are known to get brittle and crack and prevent the spark from getting to the plugs.
