2013 ram 1500 cylinder #2 misfire code

Asked by Hooker2469 Aug 08, 2019 at 06:02 PM about the 2013 RAM 1500 Outdoorsman Crew Cab 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Help please. I have a 2013 ram 1500
outdoorsman. It has 150000 miles on it. It started
throwing number 2 cylinder misfire. I have changed
all the plugs, swapped coil packs, new fuel injector
on that cylinder, did compression test (it was good)
and replaced crankshaft sensor. It seems to be
running better but when I get on the gas to make it
up a hill or pass the check engine light sometimes
flashes on then goes off or it may stay on . I check
my code reader when I get home and still says
p302 misfire. Any other suggestions from anyone
would be appreciated.

Just going through this with my 09. Since we have determined it's not the plugs or coil my mechanic thinks it's probably the cam and lifters that go bad on so many of these engines

On a mis fire, if you've changed the coil and plugs, and you still have it, it's not good. Do a compression check. I suspect low compression on the coded cylinder. What happens is the valve seats and guides get worn, or don't seat right due carbon causing low compression. When that cylinder fires, it doesn't fire as hard and as fast. A milli second slower. The computer picks it up and you'll get that code. In the old days the guides were made of bronze, now they are aluminum.
