Can someone help me I have an 83 ford Thunderbird heritage with a 302 auto it just quit firing one day it only fires when I have the key engaging the starter won't run though please help!!!!!!!

I think that you might have a distributor failure. Have you taken the car in for a professional opinion?
Are you saying that the engine runs while engaging the starter but dies when you let go of the key? Your problem might very well be a bad ignition switch.
The distributor is strictly mechanical no vacuum advance no pick up the timing is controlled by the computer it's has the eec 3 and duraspark 3 ignition system I've changed the coil the ignition switch had the duraspark tested and it's good I'm at a loss with it
