The switch position #1 (or "Acc" for North American readers) should pull in a relay to power the ignition circuits that are normally hot when the key is on. We can reasonably assume that the new switch is good and the signal is not getting to the relay to fire it. If it was a bad relay, it wouldn't work in the "crank" position either. That narrows it down to a bad/open circuit between the switch and relay.

any idea how the relay would bee labelled. i have have other problem in the electrical area and was able to fix them. just do not see relay for acc.

The relay should be in with the other fuses and relays. I'm not sure where it would be on a '84 944. It has to have one. If it did not have a relay, all the power would have to go through the switches at the ignition key. Try to find a VW/Porsche 944 forum. You can't be the first to experience the problem and other owners can tell you where to look.

Unable to find anyone on forum that's had the same trouble. I guess I will just keep trying. thanks anyway.

the relays boxes will be under the hood, under the dash on the drivers side where your feet go or in the rear maybe on the left or right side behind the carpet i am a porsche tech but i havent worked on a 944 relay box in a while but those are the most common places and if you find the relay try to jump it with two wires and then if the window works then you know its the relay. i have found that relays go very often on those 944s and if you have a brand new switch in and the relay isnt the problem then check the micro switches and the motor and if you want check for continuity between wires
