What is a sending unit and Where can I get one?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I purchased a 1987 Cadillac Allante soft top (not running).  I had it towed to
my local shop and was told that the sending unit was not working and that the
gas tank was corroded.  Can these be repaired, if not do you know where I
could order new ones?  I was told that the gas tank can be repaired by
spraying the inside with fiberglass paint.

Sending unit is what sends signal to tell you the fuel level. You can purchase the entire fuel tank kit from different websites. Attached is one to give you an idea. http://www.wholesalegmpartsonline.com/products/gb/Cadillac/Allante/TANK-Fuel/2492615/03540036.html?partner=googlebase_adwords&kwd=&origin=pla
