Honda overheating after accident

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I was in an accident (tractor trailer backed into me) which resulted in front
end damage to my Honda Crosstour.  Never had a problem before this.  I got
my car back two weeks later after the front end was repaired and a new
radiator and parts put in.  A couple weeks later my car overheated.  I had it
towed back to garage that said there was air in the coolant and it triggered
the sensor.  They gave my car back after adding more coolant.  A few weeks
later same thing happens.  Now my radiator and hose is melted.  They also
think my engine has been compromised.  What are the odds that this has
nothing to do with the accident and the issues I've been having with the
radiator?   the garage is saying it's not them and insurance company is
saying they don't think it's party of the accident.  I have all records of
maintenace on my vehicle and never had an issue before the accident.

It certainly sounds related to the damage since the cooling system is in the front of your car. You could get another opinion from a different mechanic which may help you in your fight for compensation. Good luck!

I would pressure test and see if everything holds the correct amount of psi. I would almost bet you have a leak or air in the system. Almost always, every time I have done a pressure test this has brought the bubbles to the top and out. I have fixed 2 cars this way in the last 6 months. Last thought, has anyone checked wiring to fans or coolant temperature sensor? From your description, this is definitely an insurance issue as it was running good before semi crash.

Thank you for your responses. The first time my car went back they said there was air in the system which caused the overheating. When I talked to the original garage they said they just put more coolant in it then Two weeks later my car overheated again! I brought my car to another mechanic. The tech inspected my vehicle and found there was no coolant in the system. They put some in and ran it up to temp, then checked the coolant system for combustion contamination. Found there was no obvious issues. But they can't proceed with testing due to the radiator filler neck and melted coolant over flow resivore. Hopefully I will find out what other damage has been done today. I guess my question is what could have caused this if it wasn't the radiator or parts concerning the radiator? My insurance company that should be working for me since I was the one who got hit is saying if they find out it was caused by my engine then it won't be covered. How could a honda engine cause this without it being related to how the engine is cooled? Just trying to get some knowledge in case I have to fight it. Again thank you for responding!
