water leak rear cargo area - honda crosstour

We just had the same thing. What did you do
I just had the same issue
2014. Extensive rust on underside of rear driver quarter panel. Not sure if I'm saying that right. My wife noticed white stuff growing on back seat behind driver. I tried cleaning it, but it came back. I later deduced it was mold of some kind. Placing back seat in flat position and lifting up gap spacer (between back seat and rear trunk area), you could see a lot of rust just on driver's side. Honda dealer took it all apart at their body shop and said there was extensive rust underneath vehicle as water was getting in somewhere in rear wheel well. Cost to fix is $15K. They're contacting Honda corporate to see if they'll pay as its still under warranty or they may decide to buy back car. Buy back would be for $15K only no KBB. Car was purchased as a Honda Certified Pre-Owned. I'm betting we just end up getting screwed and they won't pay for anything.

Has anyone had any resolution on water leak issue??? I have found this is a significant leak. Found a large amount of water in left rear quarter below left storage bin. I am still looking for the leak since 3 Honda dealers will look at it for a hourly $ with no guaranty they can find the leak.
2014 Having the same issue. Water entering under driver side passenger seat and into the rear cargo area. Water only comes in when the car is driven. Been to the dealership twice so far and still leaking. Now have a claim open with Honda America.
I have a 2013 Crosstour EX-L with this exact problem. I found the source of the water leak. Under the back seat cushion there is a body seam 6 in up from the seat floor that is not sealed. With the bottom seat cushion out, we have observed water pouring in to the well under the driver's rear seat which then migrates to the entire rear hatch floor area on the driver side. I have pictures documenting all the rest and fluid entry point. The Honda representative has refused to meet with me. I believe it's time for a class action suit. My name is Brian Bayley and you can contact me at surgicalrepairs@gmail.com
I have same issue, our 2013 has only 26000 miles and has stayed in the garage because we had beater cars to drive for work and around home use. We recently started using the car and this week drove it in the rain. Noticed a couple of days later a smell in the car and after inspection the carpet under the rear passenger and drivers side was wet under the rubber floor mats. After going on line looking for others with the same problems we found that our back seat bottom cushion is also wet. Our car is practically brand new but the warranty is gone. I will be pulling the back seat out next week trying to find a way to seal the leak Brian is talking about. I doubt that Honda will be any help.
Does anyone know how to release the cable for the back of the rear seat on a 2013 Honda Crosstour. So that I can remove the rear seat. I’m sure it is simple but so far I haven’t figured it out. I need to release this to remove the back of the seat.

Ok guys and gals here is an update on my water leak. Just to highlight the water was getting into the rear drivers floorboard and under the removable plastic storage bin in the rear. I took it to s body shop and he assured me he could fix it. He kept my car for several days running water on it for hours, checking for cracks in the sealant in joints and he couldn’t find anything. He was about to give up when he sprayed water into the rear drivers wheel well from right over the tire up from underneath. BINGO. He had someone in the car with all of the intior molding and carpeting out and while spraying water from underneath the water went into the car at a pretty bad rate. The problem was s hole about the size of a dime in the wheel well right above the tire at about one o’clock. Thisfilled the quarter panel and after it filled the sloshing from taking off put water in the compartment in the back and under the seat and floor pan on the drivers side. It comes out from under that brace and seems that itit is coming from there but it is not. It just flows there when taking off and stopping. That is why it only leaked when driving in the rain because the water is thrown up by the tire and fills it up. This should be easy for you to check just look under the drivers side rear wheel well between the tire and the body. Mine was undercoated but the hole was still there. My body man repaired it with sealant and problem is fixed. He said it came from the factory that way. He did alll the work and it was still less than $200. I’m sure you can seal it yourself without removing anything for just a few bucks. I know it sounds to simple but check it out. What can it hurt? Good luck
This description above is super useful!! I looked at mine and there are a couple oval shaped holes where the undercoating does not cover the sheets metal below. I'll seal mine up!
I hope it is okay that I copied it with your name and CarGurus citation to the Facebook Crosstour Nation page.
That is awesome mine has been doing same thing. Now off to find this hole! I thought it was my weather stripping...
Circled small circle is where I think you are talking about
It is hard to tell. I think mine is in a different place. Here is a picture. Stay tuned another person may post here soon with additional useful information.
Found another potential spot
I am getting information from a person that is not on the forum, whom I hope will contribute here, of a large leak along a seam on the bottom of the cat that looks sealed, but is not. Here is a photo. He put water in thecae and watched it flow out. His solution is to seal the seam. I am waiting to understand how much of it needs to be done, but suspect all of it.
Water poured from the intersection of these seams. But seal all of them
Awesome thanks that where I was thinking it looked suspect
Wonder if flex seal will seal it?
The person I am talking to suggested this product.: SEM Black seam sealer part 29392 I don't know about other products.
Did the plastic cover part on the bottom have to come off? I’m trying to find where that spot is in picture
I wrote the post identifying the leak after my body man found it and repair it. He sent me a photo but I can't find it to post it. The leak was on the top part of the rear drivers side wheel well. It was about 1/4" hole but when driving in the rain was big enough that over time it filled up enough to leak into the rear floorboard and the pan in the cargo area. Since the repairs were made we have driven in heavy rain several times and I am happy to report that it is bone dry. I know that all Crosstours aren't created equal but this is worth checking out it is an easy and cheep fix. Good luck
I think there are at least 3 places that leak. 1. The location Gun pointed too that I also have a few small holes. 2. The picture Steve Tillman posted on Crosstour Nation where 3 seams meet. 3. After conversation with Steve, there is a seam on the upper inside of the fender that wraps around the inside. To try to explain it better.... step by step. take your hand, palm up. Place it on the op of the wheel at the highest point. Now curl your fingers so the make contact with the inside of the fender. As you walk your fingers up the inside of the finder and maybe 2" up there will be a horizontal seam. You will pass the sheet metal bend first. It goes to the left (and right I think) then towards the inside of the car and around the back. Part of it is covered by the plastic fuel tank neck. That needs to come off. The further around. It looks sealed, but it leaks. Clean and resea that whole seam. Steve suggested SEM Black seam sealer part 29392
I wish I knew of the many others with what I thought was an isolated issue with my '13 Crosstour EXL 4wd Navi. Long story short, Honda bought car back in May of '17. I fought without an attorney and settled for a lousy $17,000, my error! Car was still booking at $25k. Car was mint with 63,000 miles plus had just paid over $1,000 for new Michelin tires earlier that year. Honda made it sound like my issue was a one in a million problem, and my Honda dealer claimed it was a rear drivers side inner fender seal somehow missed at the factory when car was built. The only reason I found out about it was after I noticed a super tiny rust bubble on the outer drivers side rear fender. Thought it was a fluke and took to my Honda dealer to have the small (so I thought) bubble taken care of under the corrosion warranty. What a shock when the body shop called me a day later and told me there was a huge issue with water in the back of the car, seat bottom also wet etc. I had the same white mold buildup on rear seatbelt as others, but at time did not know what it was. Also the entire rear quarter panel was corroded on the inside. Guy I hope somebody is starting a class action suit as I believe Honda covered this one up big time. I unfortunately signed off as part of the buy back agreement whereas I cannot join any lawsuit or I can face legal issues from Honda. Still miss that car!
