Chevy Captiva Sport won't start sometimes and weak engine sound
Asked by Sarah Jul 05, 2018 at 08:27 AM about the 2013 Chevrolet Captiva Sport LTZ
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
Sometimes the battery seems dead and all the
lights are off. I have no power to the car. If I try to
start my car, it doesnt even try and the key gets
stuck in the ignition. Then it randomly comes back
on and I can start my car. It used to start within
seconds, now it's up to 15 minutes or more. When I
can start my car, the engine is loud but sounds
weak. When I turn it off, it sounds like it is
groaning/sighing right in front of the wheel.
Is this an alternator problem? I've gotten my
battery checked and it's fine. What else could it be?

I'm having the same issue. Have you been told what it could be yet?
I have the same issue. 2014 Seems a recall needs to be in order.. Sounds electrical Very random
I've had the same issue. The fix was to buy a new battery (even though I didn't feel I should have needed one just yet). I haven't had the issue since. Sidenote - when the key gets stuck it is because the steering wheel is locked. Turn the wheel a little and it should unlock.

I had the same problem with this crappy 2014 Chevy Captiva. The check engine turned on and my car wouldn't start. It turned off several times at stop lights after shaking. A mechanic changed the camshaft position sensor 6 months ago and now the check engine light is on again.
I have a 2014 Chevy Captiva. It was randomly completely shutting down, no power at all, key stuck. Would last a few minutes, then start, like nothing was wrong. I would have to reset the clock. The first few times, while driving, it only affected the radio, thus because sound comes through radio, turn signals were delayed, when turned on, worked but no sound. Took it in, they thought they fixed the problem. Charged and paid $191.16 Started up again, randomly not starting. This time it was over 5 hours, with everything dead and keys stuck in ignition. I went to bed, next morning, unlocked car manually with key, and heard dinging, letting me know keys were in ignition. Turned key and it started. Reset clock. Was told by my mechanic this time to take to Chevy Dealer. Drove it there. They did test on it. B1000-36-BCM Electronic Control Unit Performance, SI says to replace effected module, BCM set code, they replaced the BCM ( Body Control Module) to fix this concern. That was on June 13,2019. Charged and paid $711.39. Monday, July 15, 2019, problem again of not starting, key stuck, totally no power. Happened again Friday, July 19,2019. Then last evening, came home shut car off and trunk would not unlock. Everything else seemed ok. I went out later, trunk unlocked, but had to reset clock. So, it must of shut down again. Took back to Chevy Deal this morning. Wonder what they will think or find this time. I know of one other 2014 Chevy Captiva, doing the same thing. So, that is two in my small town. I believe, there should be a recall on something! Will keep you posted on what I hear.
I'm sitting in a parking lot with this same problem. These. Vehicles are crap
I do not recommend this vehicle go anyone. Buy a bicycle.
This is Captivaowner. Happened again on July 28th. Took it back to dealership that “fixed” it before. No power, key stuck in ignition. They tested all fuses, even tried jumping it, would not start, all fuses checked out ok. Tech slapped the under the hood fuse block and all lights and power came back on. Tech installed a new under the hood fuse block due to internal failure. This was on July 31,2019. Have had no problems since.
I have 2013 captiva did the same thing i changed the batteryvoltage sensor. Below the battery it cost me 26.00 and have not had any more problems the positive cable and other wires go insidde the sensor ring
I am having the same problem with our 2015 Captiva. If I hit the fuse block under the hood in the middle it will come back on. The salesman at the dealership where we bought it said he has never heard about it before. But there needs to be a recall on the 2014 and 2015 Models.
I have a 2012 same thing 1300.00 for both computer modules added two ground wires still doing it can hit the groumd battery cable or box beside battery and it will come back on

There is a service bulletin for Captiva that says the negative better cable sensor may be incorrect and is causing electrical problems. It only requires a new negative battery cable. I’ve attached the link https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2013/SB- 10052499-4154.pdf

Had pretty much the same issues as described above. I just purchased a 2012, got it detailed (not the engine bay) and ended up with a no start situation. Had just replaced the battery. Dealer sold me a new positive battery cable due to some internal corrosion. 3 days later same problem. Ended up finding pinched and open wires under the steering column from the column being moved up and down over the years. I still have a start hesitation once the key is turned, but it starts everytime now.

OPEN THE HOOD AND SHAKE THE NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE WITH THE KEY IN THE ON POSITION...COMMON PROBLEM IS THE NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE NOT MAKING A GOOD GROUND. HOPE THAT HELPS
