No, you know it's not normal- take it to the dealer, there may be a recall on the ignition switch- sounds dangerous-
So you turn off the ignition switch on the steering column and the engine and everything remains running? Was it the engine or electrical fans? Unless you have exceeded your warranty miles, it is covered under your factory warranty. It may be a bad ignition switch. Just like the light switch in your house. If you turn it off and it continues to burn the bulb, it is a bad switch. What a switch does is interrupt the "flow" of electricity. The car switch stops the electrical to the ignition and other components to run the vehicle. Don't take no for an answer.
How long did it stay running? I could just be a timing problem
High pressure fuel pump seal has a leak. Need to replace that.
