Problems with my 2014 ford focus trunk

Asked by Kristian Dec 06, 2020 at 04:26 PM about the 2014 Ford Focus SE

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 2014 ford focus truck won't open,  when I hit the truck
button I can hear a click like it wants to open but idk, im
not super knowledgeable on cars.  Also when I put the car
in reverse, it'll say the truck is open when it actually isn't
then when I put it in drive itll stop saying its open.  Any
help I would greatly appreciate it, I dont wanna take it to a
repair shop if I can do it myself cheaper.

Is there a key for decklid? If not, your rear seat backs, do they fold down? If so, can you access the the release for the decklid, usually a plastic handle that hangs down. My first thought is to get the decklid up, then we can do some diagnostics. Just my opinion.

My seats do fold down. My first thoughts is it could possibly be a wiring problem. Ill have to check tomorrow after work. What I've found to be 3 common problems is fuse, wiring, or trunk actuator. I dont believe its a fuse do to the clicking indicating it still has power and the clicking but not releasing may mean the trunk actuator went out. I hope im wrong and its just the wiring cuz I can work on wiring pretty easily.
