Question type: Maintenance & Repair

HI All,

I just purchased a used 2014 chrysler 300c and after looking in the trunk I noticed a
small rectangle hole(about 2in by 3in) cut in the interior on the left side. I can not
imagine it is supposed to be there do you know what was originally there? A light or
plastic cap maybe? it is about two feet back and one foot up on the left side. Any help
or insights would be greatly appreciated! Thank you

Edmunds.com has 262, yes--, not a typo, 262 pictures if the 2014 Chrysler 300C bot AWD and non..and this is the only two with trunk open. I was attempting to see what is going on. This is, I think, an amp...?.... Somebody correct me please if that is not. But 1) it's on passenger side and 2) how to tell what is behind?

Now, tho only other image is this. No help, can you tell if it looks like it was cut by a sawzall or a grinder..or factory already there?

Hi thanks for your help! The hole I am speaking of is on the left. Here is a picture of a trunk I found online and I can see the rectangular spot right by the cargo net. There is something there in this picture but I don't know what it is. Any thoughts?

The bright spot by the cargo-net appears to me to be a light. Behind a lens. The rectangle hole I see, even when I enhanced it still can't say what it it is..but it does seem to be supposed to be there..as opposed to somebody cutting it..for what I don't know. Sorry chadst I have been really no help.

Okay, I enhanced this a much as possible and still retain some focus..but still, can't tell if the bright spot is light..or what? It will go full screen

I am wondering if there is something in the hole, not the light but the rectangle...some kind of switch...or...? Guessing..

That is probably the release for the gas cap if the one inside the door is not working. It should have a plastic like covering over it along with the carpeting.

It is the emergency release for the gas cap/lid. There should be a wire inside that hole if you look in. Thats the wire you pull to open the fuel door should the electrical system malfunction. Originally this area of the carpeting had 3 slits in it and you could just pull it back to gain access to the release, but it looks like the "flap" was pulled off. Hope this helps.

IT DEFINITELY IS THE EMERGENCY FUEL DOOR RELEASE,IN CASE YOU NO POWER TO YOUR FUEL DOOR RELEASE ON THE DOOR SWITCH,THERE IS A CABLE TO PULL AND MECHANICALLY RELEASE THE FUEL DOOR.
