key fob, and there is no trunk release on the inside of the
car?

Pull the back of the back seat down to gain access to the inside of the trunk. Then pull the trunk release, more than likely a yellow handle, at least mine is in my 2010 Chevy Impala.

The wire came loose on the latch, I just pushed it back on. Solved the problem.

Our Malibu had the same problem. My husband located a black tube that encased a set of small wires, three of which were severed. He reconnected them and we now have a working trunk (fob and button) and trunk light.

I found the problem! It was fuse #16 (Trunk Release). Under the compartment lid that is on the left side under the steering wheel. It is a 5amp fuse. In the mean time I interchanged with fuse #20 just to turn the failure on and off. I am going to buy a spare just in case. I hope this helps everyone with the same failure of not opening trunk.

Check fuse #8 as it is also related to trunk release.

Go on Amazon and buy a trunk actuator cause the motor is going bad if it hasn't already gone completely bad. I just fixed my issue cost me $20 bucks for the part and took about 20 mins to switch out with a basic set of tools. Kept blowing fuses and all now it works. I just put mines in today and it works like a charm

Antonio, you're right. I've already changed the fuse two times now. I think I'll get the actuator. Thanks!!

For 2016 - 2020 Chevrolet Malibu equipped Stop/Start option. If your trunk does not release when pressing the trunk's lid handle switch nor the Key FOB button. Check 15A fuse # F41 at the Instrument Panel Fuse Block. This fuse is listed at "Body Control Module 1 (with Stop/Start option)" on the Owner's Manual.

Both the latch and button were not working. I ordered a cheap china latch and had the same problem. Neither the key fob or push button would open the trunk lid and the latch would not keep it closed. What I found was there was slight tension on the emergency cable that would not allow the latch to work properly. Once I took the tension off the cable the latch started working properly. it drove me crazy for awhile but maybe this will help others who may have the same problem. I GM failed with this system.

I purchased fuses to start. They kept blowing. I purchased a replacement trunk release part from Amazon installed it and replaced the fuse and all is well. Here is the part to look up on Amazon ... "Trunk Lid Latch Lock Actuator Motor Compatible for 11-19 Chevrolet Cruze Malibu Camaro ATS CTS ATS Regal LaCrosse"
