Burning smell from engine 2014 Camry

Asked by Daniel Nov 16, 2015 at 08:28 AM about the 2014 Toyota Camry SE

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

So recently, like last 2 days when i come home from work and park my
camry in my garage, i smell a faint burning smell, as if i slammed on the
breaks as hard as i could going 100mph. but there is no smell from the
breaks, or from the exhaust, and there is no smell in the cabin, but only
from the top vents of the hood. i dont know if this is bad or not, i don run my
car hard, usually max 3500 rpm because its a 4 cylinder.

its a 2014 camry with 22k miles on it, its well maintained, cleaned, and
taken care of like a baby. oil level is normal, but the smell is either burning
oil smell or burning plastic/breaks smell, not sure, after about 5 minutes of
the engine not running the smell is gone. Asked my dad who is the
mechanic he said there is no smell other than the bon fire from the
neighbors, but i know how wood smells like and i know how burning plastic
smells like, and its not burning wood.

the car is practically new, and has never had any problems at all. this
morning i went to my clinical and before i went inside, i opened the hood
and sniffed around, the smell is coming from the engine but its so faint that
it vented out within seconds of opening the hood, everything else smells
clean like simple green (cause i clean my car in insane detail).

any advise? should i be worried?

Is it still under warranty? Have it checked- and stop using the simple green in the engine compartment- it's supposed to be a little dirty under there-

It's still under Toyota care till the end of the year. And the engine is a 36k mile warranty standard. I haven't cleaned the engine in 2 months

Me too. My 2010 Camry with 50,000 miles, and do regular oil changes, has a strong oil burning smell just when I back out of the garage and stop. Not even running it for more than 10 seconds.

Take it to your dealer/mechanic, my turned out to just be a plastic bag stuck underneath, they called me back ten minutes after I dropped my car off.
