‘14 Honda Accord Hybrid multiple dash warning lights

Asked by bustos Sep 04, 2019 at 07:35 PM about the 2014 Honda Accord Hybrid EX-L

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2014 Honda accord hybrid that has
approximately 102,000 miles on it. For the
past several weeks it has intermittently done
some strange things when I go to start it.
When it is in these moods, I get multiple
warning lights that pop up in succession.
Most of them have to do with breaking or
traction, but some but not all of them; some
include steering. Most of the time I can try
and start it several times and it will finally
start.

Once it took me 10 minutes before it would
finally start and now I cannot start it all.  It
can do this for several days in a row doing
this, only to suddenly stop doing it and work
fine for several days. One time, when I when
finally was able to start it, and it flashed
through aeveral warning sensors including
anti-lock brakes, the brakes wouldn’t work as
I started rolling forward. After it got over
itself, the brakes worked just fine.

Today it is flashing the same brake light
warnings but it won’t start and there is a
strange wooshing noise coming from the
trunk where the hybrid battery is.
Brake system problem with a red
exclamation point icon, Brake system
problem with a orange box below that says
‘Brake Ststem, Anti-Lock Brake System
Problem with letters ABS in orange circle
below and Hill Start Assist Problem with an
inclined car followed by an exclamation
point!

Anyone have any ideas?

Similar issue on '2015 Hybrid Touring. Turned out it was the battery (the small "traditional" battery, not the main drive battery in the trunk) was old and was not charging properly. Car would not start intermittently and then would not shift out of park. Reported brake issue, ACC issue, TPMS issue, ABS issue.... The dash would always light up, however. When the car would not start (i.e., would not let me shift out of park), I jumped the battery under the trunk and that got the car started, and the warning lights went away after a couple of minutes (I guess the under-the-hood battery was charged up marginally). As you know the engine may or may not run depending on the status of the drive battery. Replaced the battery under the hood (group size "51" not "51R") with Costco one for $75. Dealer was asking for $160. Pep Boys the same. Runs normally now. Thinking Honda could install a "battery low" sensor instead of having people freak out as if the car is going haywire.... I sure freaked out. Good luck. S

You might need to disconnect negative cable from battery and wait for 1/2 hr. and then reconnect that cable back again also prepare to put the anti theft radio code for your radio after that you can drive your car for acople minutes that error messages may disappear.

How did you jump the battery under the trunk? I’m having the same issue and have replaced the 12v battery and it still won’t start. Thanks

to Gugu6NN6B: You wrote: "How did you jump the battery under the trunk? I’m having the same issue and have replaced the 12v battery and it still won’t start. Thanks " You shouldn't need to charge the new battery as they all come pre-charged... If you insist on jump-starting the car, it's done the same way as typical gas engine cars. I had a similar problem with my 2014 Accord Hybrid. Turned out to be a lose battery cable causing the battery to not charge all the way. The battery was fairly new and was replaced under warranty but I believe it was just the lose cable.

I had the exact same issue few month back in my 14 Accord Hybrid, with all crazt lights on the dash it won't start and will make crazy spooky noise appearing to come from back passenger side wheel. Bought a battery and replaced it myself, everything back to normal. Can't emphasis more Honda should put an under hood battery low indicator light.
