http://techinfo.honda.com/rjanisis/pubs/OM/3W1414/3W1414OM.pdf I don't know about 4 quarts but it does say on page 539 it takes 2.49 quarts of Honda ATF DW-1 automatic transmission fluid in the transmission
This car does not have what is traditionally called a transmission. That is, a set of mechanical parts that vary the ratio between the engine's rotation, and the tire's rotation. But it still has rotating parts with gears. The engine is geared to the generator, the drive motor is geared to a crankshaft, and the crankshaft to a differential. There is also a clutch that will connect these two system that are normally connected These parts need lubrication and cooling, and ATF is the best way to do it.
