Check engine light blinks

Asked by blakebrass Jan 26, 2018 at 11:03 PM about the 1999 GMC Jimmy 4 Dr SLE 4WD SUV

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hi, well I have a 1999 gmc Jimmy
4.3 vortec V6 which was running
fine up until a few days ago. Well
the check engine light blinks when
I accelerate over 40 km/hr and
stops when I'm under that. So I
changed the plugs and wires.
Same problem. Changed rotor and
cap. Same problem. Changed PVC
valve. Same problem. I'm thinking
it's fuel related so the ignition coil
is next.  What do you think?
Sensors, vacuum leak. I'm kinda
stumped and wish I had a code
reader but don't have one lol. I
don't wanna change the spider
fuel injector system cause that's
the most expensive one so if ya
have a similar problem or had.
Info would be great. Thank you.

I think for about $80** you can get a decent OBDII reader , the same as what you spent on parts you didn't need , now you have to read the codes anyways , and seeing as it's not running right you shouldn't drive it to auto zoo , there''s certain tools you should have if you plan on doing your own work

This means mis firing. Sounds like it's starving on fuel. Check fuel filter and fuel pressure. Still need to read codes to verify before throwing parts at it as it tends to get expensive

Blinking light usually indicates a severe engine misfire allowing unburned fuel to be dumped into the exhaust system. There it can quickly raise the temperature of the catalytic converter to a point where damage is likely, requiring an expensive repair.
