what is practical weight limit on a 2015 subaru forester

Asked by worriedsuabaruowner Jul 16, 2015 at 04:18 AM about the 2015 Subaru Forester 2.5i Touring

Question type: General

the weight limit on the door says 900 lbs. the car is suposed to carry 5 people that brings
it over the limit with just people at average weight of 180 - no luggage  I read somewhere
the weight limit is really about 1200 lbs That is more reasonable I plan a 600 mile trip with
4 people who average 180 and with luggage hat will weight about 300 lbs. i am trying to
figure out if this is doable. once we get there it will be well under and two people will go
other ways on return, so it just the trip up that concerns me

The weight limit posted on the door is the weight limit of the car.

If you run over the weight limit, drive slower and perhaps air up your tires to 35 psi.

related to this - WHAT MAKES MORE WEAR AND TEAR - carrying 400lbs of cargo and driving 40-60 miles of mountain and mountain town roads daily VS cargo empty, driving every other day between 20-30miles daily mountain/mountain town roads? i have been borrowing my friend's 2015 Subaru Forester SUV since November. i drive it locally in Asheville-Black Mountain-Old Fort area. so that's a 20-30mile radius. my friend was concerned about wear and tear from mileage. when i took over the car, i emptied what she was carrying around in the car DAILY - which was a lot of camping gear and tools for working land and building, food supplies and 10 gallons of water, and a huge 50person canvas meditiation/chai tent. all told this stuff must weigh at least 400-450lbs that she was driving around daily VS my daily driving, with the car empty. which is more wear and tear?

Less weight is less wear and tear. Losing 450 pounds would make the car seem like it had a lot more power and your fuel economy would go up. If you are borrowing a car be grateful and don't give the owner any grief or you may be walking. Change the oil, pay for some maintenance and be thankful. Buy her a set of tires if you want to be a friend.
