would pay 50/50 for paint job

hood!! I asked about trading it
in even up.. well I paid over
$13,000 now its worth

I've tried EVERYTHING!! I even sent out emails to the CEO Of GM. I found out a really good article about GM paint that I'll add too. GM SAYS ITS WEAR AND TEAR!! On a 5 year old car?? Then the dealership will pay 1/2 of paint repairs. I live on fixed income and they know I dont have my 1/2!! Here is the ARTICLE ABOUT GM PAINT I FOUND!! Thank you for contacting the Center for Auto Safety (CAS) regarding the paint problem on your General Motors (GM) vehicle. At CAS’ urging, in January 1993 GM adopted the most comprehensive paint policy within the industry. GM will repaint vehicles with defective paint for free for six years and unlimited mileage, regardless of whether you bought the vehicle new or used. GM will pay all the cost of repair except for dents, scrapes and other similar damage. A copy of GM’s announcement of its corporate-wide paint policy is enclosed. In March 1995, GM secretly reneged on this policy by cutting the limit to 5 years. However, many consumers have sued in small claims court to force GM to honor the 6-year program and to get free paint jobs beyond 6-years if they show the paint defect first surfaced within 6-years. A national class action lawsuit against GM was filed in Louisiana by Becnel, Landry & Becnel, P.O. Drawer H, Reserve LA 70084. one need not contact this firm to be part of the class as the court will order notification of all owners covered by the class if a settlement is reached. "Dateline NBC" did a program on peeling paint on November 2, 1997, and has an Internet website, www.dateline.msnbc.com, from which further information can be obtained. The most common paint defects seen in GM vehicles are paint peel and severe flaking, conditions in which a vehicle’s colorcoat (e.g., blue, gray, silver) literally lifts away from the underlying anti- corrosion primer coat which is generally a dull gray color. on vehicles suffering paint peel, the colorcoat peels off on horizontal surfaces (hood, cowl and roof) first. on severely affected vehicles, the vertical surfaces (quarter panels) will also peel with the passage of time. The best analogy for the paint peel condition is the after effects of a bad sunburn. Following a sunburn, the skin often blisters and then peels away. Paint peel is analogous to a sunburn in that the paint literally peels away in patches!!!!!

My 2015 Trax is doing this same thing in the exact same spot and now it’s starting to do it on the hood. I don’t know who to call about it.
Guru95B34X answered 3 years ago
Oh wow I've been fighting with Gm! Same color as yours and my paint is doing the same thing!!! it's on my hood, the top part of my car, and now on the trunk of my car as well!!
Guru95B34X answered 3 years ago
I spoke to a GM executive rep and was given 2500 dollars towards a brand new car! But i know I settled, but I'm going to contact them again until they paint my car. This is insane, as I've seen several other cars with the same issue same color, same spots, as well!

I have a 2016 blue trax and the paint is peeling on my hood..
I have a blue 2015 chevy trax and mine is also peeling, chipping off.
i have the same problem with my paint
in 2019, the paint started popping off on the hood. I took it to my chevy dealer, and they said they had never seen anything like that before. They did take some tests on the paint, and sent it to GM. when they came back to me they said that GM would pay for %40, and that I had to pay for the rest. The estimate for me was close to $1400! So, I took it elsewhere. Now, paint is peeling in the back!
My car is a chevy trax with only 35000 miles on it.

2016 Chevy Trax blue paint flaking off hatch and bubble on hood. Dealer will not help
Guru9YYPXH answered 3 years ago
So, I sent pictures and emails to GM and did everything I could like getting an estimate which came out to be 1,600 dollars, it turned out that my car is too old...it's only been 5 and half years old car that I barely driven. There is nothing they can help me. I decided never to buy car from GM and chevy company ever again. Dealership lies and GM customer service doesn't help. Go elsewhere if you want any vehicles. I do not recommend, ever.
Im having the same issues on my blue 2015 chevy trax. Who do I need to contact?
I have a 2015 also my car is peeling . I met a lady at Sams she was having the same problem. I figured out you can't take it through a Car wash it starts it.

2018 white Chevy trax only 24,000 miles my paint is pitting everywhere and then it is starting to rust.
2016 blue Trax same problem. I am so angry that everyone is having the same problem. Same color. It's peeling in the exact same spots. Just started about a week ago with the front driver's side. I just noticed peeling by the back window passenger's side yesterday. I don't know what to do. I first thought that someone had sliced the paint intentionally in the front. I live in Pittsburgh, doesn't usually get too hot out here. I just purchased mine used at the end of 2018. The milage just hit 32k. I'm on another Chevrolet from too. If we all join together it may force them to fix this problem.

My Trax has 36k miles on it and the paint just peeled off of the hood. It looks like the paint is bubbling.
My 2016 is also peeling and it's blue!
Anyone know how to find out if a class action lawsuit has been started? My paint has peeled so much since the last time I posted. I met a woman in a grocery store parking lot with a blue 2016 Trax also peeling in the same two spots. I'm getting absolutely nowhere with GM
PEANUT1979 answered 3 years ago
I have a 2016 Trax , peeling on the hood in the same spot as Kathrine's, same blue color too. I have a number we can all call. I had a 1990 grand am and the same thing happened. Back then we called 1-800-GMCARES. They eventually took the car back. It was a very annoying process and we just had to keep pressuring them. So to have it happening again, is just crazy.
I have a co-worker dealing with the same paint issues with her 2016 Chevy Trax. What are we to do??????

Blue Buick Encore with paint just suddenly peeled off the hood all the way to the bare metal. Filed complaint with GM. Taking to dealer in morning. 2016, however, I only have 26,000 miles on it. Is also peeling now on the black trim around the hatch window. If the paint can just peel like this, and I am reading probably hurried through the system when they primed, painted and sealed it causing these problems) I think they should pay to repaint the entire car.
Same issue, noticed today on 2015 Chevy Trax, less than 40,000 miles
2016 Chevy Trax. Paint peeled on the back first and now on the hood. We need a class action suit. This needs fixed.
Guru9QZWGM answered 2 years ago
I have been told by my dealer that i am out of luck, however Chevy already had a class action suit in the 1990's to correct a paint peeling problem. seems they have not yet fixed the problem
Guru9QVP8R answered 2 years ago
Same peel facts on my 2014 Buick Encore 39k miles/. Had the hood painted last fall, $680.00. Started new peeling, to the left and right of the windshield, and back top area, as wife pointed out today. This new paint job will be $1150.00. And just replaced the valve cover and manifold last week due to bad design with the check valves. Blows out the gaskets and oil flows everywhere it shouldn't. I've been a loyal gm buyer... but no more... No Korean built cars!
Im having the same problem 2016 color is blue just like yours, Did anyone get an answer about any of it???
I am having the exact same problem with my 2015 blue Trax with 64,000 miles. It baffles me that all of us are having the same issue and are all being treated the same way by GM. What do we need to do to file a class action lawsuit?? I'm not paying $2k to fix this when it shouldn't have been my problem to fix if it was painted right!
If there is a class action suit against GM regarding the defective paint issues then why are the blue chevy trax NOT included.I just tried calling them about this issue and was given the out of warranty and environment crap. What do we have to do or contact to be included, this is outrageous!
Please call the Maher Law firm, ask about the current lawsuit filed in May, 2022 regarding paint peeling off other GM models, I would like to join, waiting to hear back from them, 407 839 0866
The Maher Law firm is creating a database of GM vehicles owners whose paint is peeling, please contact them to be added, they will present to the judge to determine a global lawsuit or state by state, 407 839 0866
I just got off the phone with Deana with the Maher Law Firm. She told me the Trax was not part of the GM class action lawsuit at this time, but it could be included if they get enough calls about this problem...no guarantee, but she did say the more people call the better for all of us. She said she has received about a dozen calls but there needs to be more. Just call and get in their database. It's super easy to do and she said if anything does come up where they add the Trax to the lawsuit, someone will call me.
Mine is doing the same!! Please let me know the number to call to reach the Maher Law Firm.
I also am having the same issue with my blue Chevy Trax 2015, the same spot is peeling the back hatch right under the window. I took it to my chevy dealership and they told me that there's nothing they can do and that how do they know I didn't cause the damage? I told them there are forums full of the same car having the same issue and they said not their problem. Has anyone got any help on Chevy taking responsibility for this? I called the Maher Law firm and was told I would get a callback, but have not heard from them yet. I called GM's support number and was told I could possibly submit a complaint to the www.nhtsa.gov site. I submitted a complaint, but I'm not sure how much they will do since it seems to be a safety problem site.

I have the same issue. Opened a case with Chevy, we will see what they come up with when I get them the estimate. I am months away from having my car paid off and I've only got 18,500 miles on a 2016!
Thank you Celeste and jchristian95, I just called the Maher law firm as well, same thing - there are still not enough Trax owners calling in yet to add this model to the class action suit, so hopefully everyone on here - past, present and future will call them: 407 839 0866 The firm is very responsive, and answered my call right away (live person!) took my information, and added me to the database. Anyone who hasn't yet done so, please take the time to call them! For the record - I have a bright blue 2015 Trax with paint peeling in exactly the same spots as everyone else on here!! Faded top section above the back window too!!! 80K, and what can I do with this car - nothing.

I added my 2016 Brilliant Blue Trax to the database today!
I have a 2015 Chevy Trax same color and it is pealing in 3 places on my hood and fading on the roof. I contacted teh dealer when it started happening and they said it was past warrantee and would not be covered.
Joining the group regarding 2016 Blue Trax. Heard back from dealer - GM basically said too bad. My body shop said to fight it so I'll try the 800-gmcares line and call the law firm.

OMG I have the same issue with my Trax, 2015, Blue. This is terrible. It first happened a year ago on the hood, but now a whole new area is bubbling.
Please scroll through the conversation and report your car to the law firm mentioned. Where are you located, what state?
Hello Everyone!! I’m a 2015 Chevy Trax owner and I’m also having this issue as well.
Hi everyone, my 2015 blue Chevy traxs paint is also pealing off. I can't afford to redo the paint, so I was wondering if anyone has tried using touch up paint or just painting over the patches? I'm just afraid of rust
I finally just had mine repainted by a professional. I couldn’t stand it anymore. I’ve fought with Chevy for well over a year and they refuse to pay anything, except give me $1500 towards a new car. My suggestion, scroll up to find the Mayer Law Firm phone number and call to get added to their database.

It's almost hard to believe. I have the exact same problem in the exact same places on the car. It started on the back hatch near the wiper blade. Now huge pieces have fallen off and also on the driver's side hood. If I didn't know better, I'd think I was looking at my own car when looking at the photo's above. It seems to be just the bright blue colored vehicles. It's just not right or fair that we can't get something done about it.
Scroll up and find the law firm phone number to call and add your name to the database so we can possibly be part of the class action lawsuit.

I have a 2015 encore same color took it to GM dealer and they told me it was cause I had basketballs thrown on it. Dont know how they knew I had a basketball, But DUH I move the car before kids play. It was on the back both sides. So I had it painted by a body repair shop 2022 then now 2023 in front hood is now peeling. I will try to call this Mayer law firm. Some one mentioned to get class action suit going I dont know how to do this.
We have the same issue with our 2015 blue Chevy Trax. PLEASE add yourself to the law suit database! Call Maher Law Firm, 407-839-0866. They need more people!

My 2016 Chevy Trax peeling paint all around the front windshield as well as the hood. Filed a claim with GM, they denied it. I called the Maher Law Firm and gave them my information. 1 more month my car will be paid off and now it's not worth anything!!! I have always bought GM/CHEVY. I can't believe they won't help!!! Please everyone call the law firm!!!!
Does anyone know the status of the lawsuit? I've been holding off on getting mine repainted but I'm almost to my breaking point. Just would love to know if there is any hope for us with this lawsuit!
As far as I know, the lawsuit will not be submitted until the summer. I'm trying to be patient!
I have the same exact problem with my 2015 Trax as everyone else. I recently called Maher Law Firm, it sounds like we still don’t have enough people and have to wait to until the law suit is done to see if they can add us later on.
I called Maher Law today. They have less than 600 complaints as of today, they need thousands!!
I leased it for 2 years, then purchased it. Of course when it was under lease warranty not a sign of peeling!!! To strip this down (it's also on the back hatch and a few other spots) it would be $10,000 or more. Of course you could just slap some paint on the spots, in which case the other spots will start until all the affected spots are bare. We have no options., except throw a temporary fix at it or pay thousands out of pocket. We shouldn't have to.
It's ridiculous that the law firm said they do not have enough people yet. With a little research I saw that we only need about a dozen for a class action lawsuit. Maybe we need to find another attorney.
Here’s a picture of the back hatch, my car is not in the greatest shape anyways because of a couple little fender bender’s, but this has dramatically dropped any type of resale or trade- in value even with the minor bodywork done. I’m contacting the law firm in the morning, actually, I think I’ll go ahead and call tonight and leave a message. I’m in Georgia by the way.
I don’t know where my first post went, but I couldn’t believe I found so many people having this issue. Surely there’s tons more and hopefully we can all get in that database and get something going. This is absolutely ridiculous that they haven’t owned up to it, being their fault.
Thanks for all the input. Hope the court will hear this.
Me too . I have to pay to get it painted and while I wait for my paint appointment my car is now chipping in other spots. I called GMC they told me to got F myself. I have a Chevy stated that the car is completely defective and would need a complete paint job. It’s just so disappointing and frustrating. It’s gonna coast $1592.80
I have a 2015 chevy trax the paint is peeling on the hatch

My paint is peeling on both sides of the hood and below the the rear wiper. It is bright blue like so many others. I love the car but this is so upsetting.
I ended up having mine painted. It's a patch job but you can't even tell. Hopefully, it will last long enough for me to trade it in in the next year.

Lawsuit was DISMISSED. As of Dec 2023 the lawsuit submitted by Maher was dismissed. I called today (July 2024) and heard they still get a half dozen new calls a day. I have an Encore (sister to the Trax) with the same blue and the same issue.
