Asked by Teri Jun 01, 2015 at 08:42 AM about the 2015 Chevrolet Trax LT FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Ok, I have been researching this for a week now. I have a brand new Chevy Trax. From
the beginning, every time I turn the fan on AFTER I run the air conditioner, there is a "dirty
sock's" smell. I took it in to Chevy dealer and they said they could not replicate it. But, they
sprayed disinfectant in the vent. And, said they tightened everything. It STILL smells!
Please, help!

Yeah, they did say that they checked for mold or bio causes too. That was all clear. I tell you, it is a weird, frustrating situation. It suck's to have your brand new car smell bad!

Piss poor customer service or even non care at all about their customers seems to be the norm anymore. Sad. We're just cash cows to these businesses.

I will have to give a quick update. I'm in my 3rd year, beginning of, of ownership and the A/C finally doesn't smell!! It actually was normal last year during A/C season. So, hold on for a bit, yours may work its way out too.

I also have a 2015 chevy trax with heater & AC issues. I have a nauseous odor in my car as well when I use the heater or AC & it is making me ill. I have had my car in 3 times to be fixed & it is still there.

I purchased a 2016 Trax with about 35,000 and decided I would rather drive a new car so traded for a 2017 Trax. I had the '16 about a month and now have had the '17 about a month. Both have the same odor emanating from the interior. It is either the glue used for moldings, carpet, etc. or the material used in components of the seats, doors, etc. It is not, NOT, an air conditioning or heater smell. I spent 30 years in Phx, AZ and instantly recognize the smell from a contaminated AC system. I also grew up in MN and spent 6 of the last 12 years there and I can tell you it is not, NOT, a contaminated heater!! So GM, spare me the B.S., identify and fix our problem!

You guys!! I have a 2016 Chevy Trax and I have the same foul odor when running my AC in the summer. You need to change your CABIN FILTER!!

Guru8LH3Z, why would a brand new car, NEED a cabin filter change? And, GuruZ35CN, the odor in my car ONLY occurred for a short time after the air conditioner was shut off and while the fan was running. It could NOT be from glue or other materials used in components in the car.

GuruRWXBQ Yes, it could be the sensor. I just got rid of my Trax and bought a Subaru Forester, couldn't have done it at a better time. The night before I traded it in, my heater went out! I had been having sensor problems in the summer with the air conditioning. I'd get in when it was 100 degrees outside and the temperature in the dash said it was 39 below zero. The air would not cool until I had driven the car for awhile and the temp. registered above 60 degrees. What a joke! And, the dealer where I purchased it told me they me they couldn't do anything about it unless it was doing it when I brought it in. Done with that dealer for sure. They lost their Subaru dealership for some reason......
