Why is my RPM gauge jumping?

My RPM's have been jumping between 2000 and
3000 like it can't stay in between... today at a red
light, i was going to turn right and i pressed on the
gas for my car to not move... i pressed just a little
bit more and it shot up to 4000 rpms and shot me
forward like i slammed on the gas. my check engine
light has been on for 2 days

+1 on the engine codes. Also sounds like the CVT is acting up - when's the last time the transmission fluid was replaced?
