Stop&start is permanently off but tries to engage on the motorway at high speeds

I never use stop&start and after a long journey and a short break of about an
hour I travel back home and suddenly the car judders and is sluggish. I get the
engine light and s&s icon flashes up '!' Then I get 'Stop &Start unavailable' on
the dash. This happened twice a year ago. I paid £600 to have it repaired and
it did it again today and I was almost killed on the motorway buy a massive
lorry thundering up behind me. Can someone PLEASE tell me how to fix this
death-trap cos I can’t sell it on as it is.
