ESC light and 4WD! blinking on 2015 Jeep Patriot

Asked by Guru9XHBZ9 May 17, 2021 at 07:35 AM about the 2015 Jeep Patriot Limited 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I was driving to work this morning and came to a stop at a 4-way. I may have
stepped on my brake a little hastily and the area has quite a bit of small
potholes. As soon as I did, I noticed the area beneath my brake feel like it
was shaking, as well as the ESC light come on and it took be a bit to actually
come to a stop. As soon as I started going again, my 4WD! light started
blinking at me the entire rest of the way and when I did another test brake
and pressed on the brakes, it felt like my brake peddle was shaking. Speed
limit the rest of the way to work is 30 mph, and anytime I braked after that, it
was fine but my 4WD! light kept blinking.

I just got my tires rotated and oil changed before my car got driven up to me
up north. Car manual is at home (I forgot to take it with me when I moved)
but it's being mailed to me soon. Might sound like a dumb question and I'm
not really that knowledgeable on cars, but could those lights have been
triggered by those potholes I hit when I made that quick step on the brakes?

The light activating were your traction control and the ABS braking system activating, hence the shaking, so you avoided siding or skidding. The 4WD light still on is a concern. How worn are the back tires vs the front tires? Uneven tire wear can activate the light? You want all 4 tires near the same diameter, that is why it is important to rotate regularly. If that isn't it, you have something mechanic or electrical in the 4WD system that you would need a mechanic to scan and diagnose.
