2015 Kia Soul key is confused

Asked by GuruRJF92 Feb 18, 2020 at 07:49 PM about the 2015 Kia Soul Base

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Key won’t smoothly insert into door locks or
ignition to unlock steering.  Happens alot  in
cold weather, works fine for awhile then
problem recurs.  Graphite doesn’t completely
help but it does make the key easier to insert.
Any suggestions, sometimes I spend up to a
half hour before key turns these locks.

Thank you for your response. Here’s what I did before receiving it. Checked with dealership, said new ignition cylinder would be $185 and another said just the key would be about $300. What I did was remove ignition cylinder, remove all the little things and their springs then put it back so I could start car and have it look like it still needed a key to start it. We discovered that all those little tumblers(?) inside the lock unit had springs except for one, so unit did not operate correctly and wore out key. I realize I might not of described this correctly but I hope someone might understand what I’m trying to say. Anyway what I did was the wrong thing cuz now I need a new key and ignition unit. LOL

Thank you. My 5 year warranty was up by ONE MONTH. Can you believe my luck? However when I first took the car in to shop and complained about this problem they said I needed new ignition with new key and they would order it and call, they never called and I thought problem solved itself cuz it started working just fine. The car was still under warranty for 3 more months but they never told me this would be covered by it, I would of needed to replace door locks and ignition. I’ve become aware that KIA dealerships fail to mention things covered by warranty if they can slide it past you and bleed your purse dry. I’ve become a KIA customer with a bad attitude who will gladly mention how ridiculous KIA dealerships are.

Thank you so much for trying to help me. I do appreciate it and will call KIA’S repair shop on Monday, and I do still have their paperwork with the original complaint dated Nov 2019.

I too am having issues with my door and ignition key on my 2015 kia soul, Key won't turn in ignition, I have to jiggle and sometimes pulpit out and turn it 180 degrees and reinsert and even then, still jiggle it. My driver's door won't unlock, only lock. I have 3 more months on warranty. If I understand correctly, the warranty will cover this?
