truck cranks excessively before it fires but only on cooler mornings like 45 or
less. All summer it starts normal. I always run same fuel, 87. It might be running
rich, inside tail pipe is sooted up and occasionally get a little soot on body
above tail pipe. its a white truck so it doesn't take much to show up. smells rich
too. What should I check?

Clean your MAF sensor, check and replace air filter, Check IAT sensor and ECT sensor...if a temperature sensor is faulty and is sending the PCM "fake news" then the PCM thinks its cold out so it tells the injectors that it needs more fuel which is flooding the system which causes a rich burn and soot in the tailpipe and before you know it your sitting on the side of the road trying to figure out how you got the damn "corona"

I changed the air filter, it wasn't terrible but was due for a change. I also cleaned the MAF sensor with the cleaner, no improvement so far. I plan to check the IAT sensor next. having a hard time locating it. Is it combined with the MAF on this vehicle?

still having the issue. I replaced the MAF and IAT sensor (they are combined) I also replaced the ECT sensor. I also cleaned the Throttle body, it was really dirty. the black soot problem has gone away. however still excessive cranking when cold. any suggestions?
