Is there a "movement sensor" available for the lift gate of a Higlander?

My son got his hand stuck in by the lift gate. I realized that the car doesn't
have any type of sensor that prevents it from closing should it detect
movement or obstruction. I then realized there isn't any type of manual way
for opening the lift gate without completely disabling the motor. I then tried
obstructing it myself with my body and it closed any way without any regards
for obstructions. This is a huge danger for a car that is advertised as a family
car. Is there something available already that can be added to the model?

I'm a design engineer and have worked on cars for over 45 years ,,, AND THAT MY FRIEND IS A LAWSUIT. How an engineer can allow that design into production is ludicrous. No there's no way to add a safety system efficiency based on the areas you need to protect ( a sliding guard or an optic sensor would probably work but in all practicality some redesign is required)

Is there nothing already out there with such a sensor? I'm a parent and I was baffled by that not coming standard?! Does no other car with such features not have that? I checked a Ford Explorer and it doesn't have it either.... any thoughts?

There's nothing you can do short of a lawsuit unless this device was added by a 3rd party who is contracted by Toyota .. then you may have 2 parties who are responsible

Do you have your owner's manual? This is a fairly new vehicle, so hopefully you have that, look through it for liftgate operation.
