My 2015 Honda Accord Sport wont start. No noise or lights when I insert key and try to turn it over. It does nothing. After a few attempts it starts like nothing was wron.

Check the connection of your battery / alternator first. Then crank sensor maybe failing or gas pump. Check fuses. Let us know
Battery and alternator have been checked and they are fine. A Honda dealer service center said unless the problem duplicates while they have the car then they won't know what it is. The problem doesn't show up as a code they can check. The issues new cars have these days are very frustrating. It's a guessing game that I don't have time and money for!!
Did you check all fuses? Sometimes basic repair is the solution
I’m having the same problems. I know this is old. But I’m a single mom and can’t continue to put money into this car and it not being fixed. New battery and starter. 500 dollars now it says I need new atlernator another 400 dollars. Did you get your car fixed??
Same problem with my daughters 2015 Accord Coupe. It is intermittent. Replace her battery after I jumped started the car, but it happened again. There is also a Recall on the Battery Sensor that shouldn't really have anything to do with it, but we're going to have it checked when they do it. The key less entry module may be the culprit as I saw in another blog. Ridiculous that an almost new Honda would do this. We had Honda's for years, but worry that their quality is declining.

Hello I'm having the same problem with my 2015 Honda Accord Sport I just replaced the alternator battery is good starter is good what else could it be that's not allowing my car to start properly we jump-started it works for a few days maybe a week and then it dies in the same thing over and over again please help I'm running out of options
My husband is having the same problem. Just took it and had recall fixed(battery sensor but rep said it's really connected to alternator). Battery tests keep coming back good. If recall doesn't help don't know what else to do!!
Same thing happened to my 2015 accord touring about a month ago. Took it to the dealer for the recall, mechanic said the starter was the culprit, car was still under extended warranty so got it replcaed for $0. Will update if the problem happens again.
I have a 2015 Accord Sport with 128k miles. When I try to start the car, I get a single tick. Then I try to start again and it fires right up. Any suggestions? I paid extra for a HONDA to avoid these kind of issues! Really ticks me off
Same problem, read that the ignition switch could be the culprit, changed mine out and problem returned 3 days later. Called local honda dealer and they said its fairly common, its not a recall, and that it is the starter.
I am having the same problem with my 2015 sport and have had the recall done. I read somewhere in another post that when this happens, reset the system by unhooking the negative on the battery. Wait a minute and put the negative back on. It resets my system and starts up right away. Too many electronics running on these new cars.
I was having similar issue on my 2015 Honda Accord with 22k miles. Took car to dealer to get Battery sensor recall work & got new starter installed. It works great again without single miss.
I have a 2015 Honda accord and yes it is the starter. I've never thought that Honda would allowed this bad starters in their cars. i know that they recalled starter for the 2013 Accord but this definitely made my mind for the next time to go and buy a Toyota even if they look not very attractive.
So far so good for us. We got a new battery and had the recall fixed. We have a 2015 sport with 75,000 miles on it.
I want to thank everyone for your postings. I'm abut ready to purchase a 2015 Honda Accord, 36,000 miles. Looks and drives great.....I go to take it to my mechanic for a 'final' go over before I purchase and the battery is d-e-a-d. It looks like a new battery. I do my research, read all the horror stories and now I'm running like hell from this vehicle. It's too bad as Honda was known for it's reliability. Has this problem been diagnosed? It seems to be more complicated that Honda's installing a 'small' under powered battery. Something is draining the battery....Any ideas? Bob
same problem with my 2015 honda accord with 53000 miles.nothing happens for few times when i try to start but starts like nothing has happened after playing with it for a while .my battery went out at 36500 miles right after warranty expired and now dealer says it is the starter and cost 700 dollar to replace it . no more hondas after owning two hondas and an acura . quality going down hill and they dont care.
2015 Accord EXL V6. Failure to turn over started occurring around November 2017. Took it to Honda and beacause they couldn’t replicate or pull up any codes, I was told I was crazy. 18 hours later I had to have my vehicle towed to Honda as the issue resurfaced (car dying in garage, parking lots, etc. while battery was showing 12.6+ Volts). I ended up replacing the factory battery as advised by Honda (59,000 Miles at the time) but despite the brand new battery I continued to have intermittent failure to turn over on the 1st and 2nd attempt. Fast forward to June 2018, 67,000 Miles. Experiencing startup failure at minimum of once a week. Fathers Day morning, car is completely dead and won’t jumpstart. Pulled out my multimeter, and the brand new battery (Duralast Gold) is showing 8.7 Volts. I’m guessing Honda is going to tell me I need a new battery and that there are no known issuess with the alternator, starter, etc....
Thanks for the feed-back and sorry for all the difficulties and stress put on us from Honda. They are really shooting themselves in the foot for not confronting this problem. They were always a go to vehicle for a solid reputation.
Im having the same exact issue with my Honda accord coupe 2015. When i step on the brakes and press the button to start the car, majority of the time the engine will “click” a single time and will not turn on. Im currently stranded in the middle of nowhere because my car will refuse to start. I took the car in two weeks ago in regards to this same issue and Had the recall fixed but the problem is still present. Ive also changed to battery. Still occurs. Please help

My 2015 accord does same exact thing they said battery replaced it same thing they said alternator I got another opinion they said starter. What is going on with these cars and why won't honda address it.
Same problem with my Honda Accord 2015. I am taking it to the dealer tomorrow. Let's see how much this is going to cost me. Ugh!
Same issue here... taking my car in tomorrow. Will work just fine for a while and them won't turn on all of a sudden. Is anyone talking lawsuit yet? This is rediculous.
Same problem with 2015 Honda Accord. Anyone have this issue fixed? Is it the starter that caused the problem?
I have a 2013 Honda Accord Sport. First time when i turn it on it just clicks.. and sometimes it starts on 5th turn and sometimes second. Some guys say its the started and some say it is the alternator. Honda guys said it is the starter and I fixed it and it still does it.
My 2015 Honda Accord failed to tune on today after work. It was failing the past 2 weeks on the first tun but worked on the second turn. Factory battery came up fine. So it could be the starter or alternator. Confused why Honda is not coming up with a better product
Can someone from International Honda get on this site and provide us with some answers?
I had the same issue this morning, 2015 Accord Sport with 92K miles. They replaced my battery. Lucky for me it was still under warranty. Funny thing is that it was a battery I purchased from the dealer on January 2017! (18 months later a 5 year battery goes bad?!?!)
It was the starter. Got my starter replaced and it works great now.
I have a 2015 honda accord, the battery suddenly started to smoke and smell. I took my car to the dealer and they were unsure of what is wrong.the mechanic at the dealer said battery seems to be leaking, and abnormal noise can be heard around the pulley area and further diagnosis needed . I am very frustrated. Anyone have a similar problem?
I have 2015 Honda Accord Sport October 2016 I bought used with 30,000 miles. After two weeks of owning it just died on me at a gas station. The battery was dead. I bought battery duralast gold and car has not had issues until recently (now 2018, car with 70,000 miles). A few months ago, maybe June, 2018. The car struggled to turn on the first time I cranked it. Then it started back up with no problem. It’s strange because it a brand new car, it’s “HONDA” and I haven’t done any big changes to car other than oil changes and flush on transmission. If anyone has a solution, please post but I think it’s wise if we create a recall position on this and also on losing oil. This is depress issue but This car has lost about 1 quart of oil in between 5,000 mole oil changes. There is a forum about this also and head gasket in my car is good. I went to Honda Delear and said everything was fine.
2015 Accord SE V6. Been in the shop several times for this, luckily under warranty. Had battery sensors replaced and new battery installed. Had starter replaced. And now car dead again. Luckily I haven't had to shell out $$ yet, but a major inconvenience when needing to take kids to appointments/classes. Again, this is a repetitive issue. Not what I expect from a Honda. Especially with their warranty being less than other automakers.
So this very issue just happened to me twice within a month. Now I'm starting to worry. I did have the recall battery sensor changed in Jan of this year. But could it be bad again? The first time I turn the key-absolutey nothing happens. I wait a minute. Then it starts up like normal. Very frustrating!
FYI: apparently living in the Phoenix area, Honda's battery does not handle the heat very well. Problem was (another) dead battery. Out of warranty, so had to pay for this battery. But at least it has 3-year warranty, which I'm sure I will use once or twice.
I’m having the same issue. Battery was replaced on my Honda Accord Sport 2015 with 32K miles. No problems what so ever. Sometime it starts sometimes it don’t. Had the battery, alternator and crank system check everything was fine. Drain test came back suspect. Thank GOD I own a jump box otherwise I would be stranded.
UPDATE: My 2015 Accord sport now has 144k miles. I have replaced battery once around 80k miles ($120), replaced starter myself at 130k miles ($399), also replaced brakes with Honda brake pads around 90k and now seems to need new pads already. Anyone else with brake pads issues/solutions?
SAME PROBLEM ON MY 2014 ACCORD 4. CYL. IT WILL CRANK OVER 1 OR 2 TIMES BUT NOT ENOUGH TO START. 1. REPLACED BATTERY - NO HELP. I HAD AN OPEN RECALL ON THE " BATTERY MANAGEMENT SENSOR" MY HONDA DEALER REPLACED THAT AND IT GOT WORSE. WON'T START MORE OFTEN. ABOUT 2 TIMES PER WEEK. HONDA DEALER REPLACED THE ALTERNATOR AND FIXED A SHORT IN THE WIRING HARNESS FOR $800.00. MADE NO DIFFERENCE. IT STARTED EVERY DAY FOR 3 WEEKS AND NOW TODAY IT FAILED TO START 5 TIMES. IDLING BAT. VOLTS IS 12.5. V. TOO LOW. WHOULD BE 13.5. IDLING WITH THE LIGHTS THE BAT. VOLTS IS 14.5. THAT'S GOOD BUT HIGHLY IRREGULAR. MY TEMPORARY SOLUTION IS TO DRIVE WITH THE LIGHTS ON. SO FAR IF I DO THAT THE NEXT TIME I START THE CAR IT STARTS. I ALSO BOUGHT ONE OF THOSE JUMP STARTERS WITH 18" CABLES AND A LITTLE 1 POUND BATTERY SO I CAN JUMP START MY SELF. i USE IT A LOT. COSTCO OR AMAZON FOR ABOUT $60.00 THERE IS NOTHING DRAINING THE BATTERY. THE CAR IS NOT CHARGING WITH ENOUGH VOLTS TO GET ENOUGH JUICE INTO THE BATTERY SO THAT IT CAN START THE CAR.
Same as GuruXKMZK on my 2015 accord. I drive with lights on and the battery charges fine. I bought a small USB phone charger from china that includes a LED output of the car's battery voltage. I keep it plugged into the cigarette lighter so I can see the battery charging voltage while I drive. Honda Canada tells me that the BCC recall could not have caused this problem even though the problem started after the recall.
We have a Honda Accord EXL 6 cyl. Intermittent problems with starting over the past 1 year. Already replaced the battery and the starter, as well as the battery sensor recall issue & They also moved some wires that were causing a short. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A4DUmAim8Fw Check this out. I think I will try this next
https://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/VehicleComplaint/ Please submit a complaint to the NHTSA. I did just now after seeing there are known issues with the 2013-2015 Honda Accord starter. My car is doing these same things. Intermittent issues with starting. I hear a click and then it doesn't start. My radio shows and so do my dash lights. It doesn't seem to be resetting my radio clock. I plug a jumper pack in and it immediately starts. I took it to Autozone and my battery is 100%. I took it to the Honda Dealership and they state that my battery, starter, and alternator are working great. They say there is nothing wrong with my car, but once I leave to stop in to a store for 10 minutes, it suddenly won't start again. It sounds like the starter is a $700 replacement issue, and it's happening just out of the warranty period. I bought this Certified used earlier this year, and it sounds like I'll be spending my Christmas money on a new starter... Or jumping my car regularly each day as I drive around.

I just bought a 2015 Honda Accord LX with 37,000 miles and am experiencing the same intermittent starting problem. When I turn the key to the start position the engine does not turn over and there is one click noise. I then turn the key back to the off position and back to the start position. So far the car ends up starting within six retries. When the car does start the engine turns strongly and starts immediately indicating the battery is fully charged. I will be taking the car to the dealer soon.
SO MINE WAS DOING THE SAME THING AND GUESS WHAT IT WAS THE FREAKING GROUND FROM THE BATTERY TO THE BODY OF THE CAR GOOD LUCK
I am having the same starter issues after having my 2014 Honda Accord for 4 year. I just came back from the dealership and I was told you need to change the starter and this part is out of warranty. Honda told me I had to pay 200. I am still in a state of shock after seeing all these complain and Honda hasn't addressed this issue yet. too bad for Honda. thank you for sharing...
I am having the same problems with my 2015 Honda Accord sedan LX out of nowhere I tried turning on my car and it wouldn't it clicks a couple times and then when it starts but all the lights came on then it did it for a few days and then it was fine for a couple months now it's starting to do it again I drove my car for 2 hours then turned it off and went to start at 10 minutes later and nothing all lights no turning over I'm getting very frustrated
I have an 14 Accord Sport, having the same intermittent no start. I have 140k on the car and this has been going on for a while. It is extremely fustrating. This is probably my last Honda. Changed out the battery 5 times already, changed the alternator, and changed the tension pulley due to a loud whining noise. My car will work weeks straight and out of the blue wont turn over. Sometime I get a click and sometimes nothing. These new Honda's are so unreliable. Even the Honda dealer cant replicate it, so they cant fix with no error code.
Hello! I ended up taking it to Honda and fortunately it replicated while there and they determined it was the starter. They replaced it at no charge to me because I had the extended warranty for the first time ever! It would have cost me over $800 if not.
Thanks for the info, i guess after shelling out almost $1000 for the alternator, $150 for a new battery and recently $400 for the tension pulley for the alternator belt. I'll have to save up more for a new starter. It does seem funny my car had no issues for weeks and since posting it hasn't started 4 times. Appreciate the help, was the starter the only thing replaced? Was there some gear near the starter too? Glad atleast you put your warranty in good use.
my problem was solved by replacing starter ar dealership. Honda co paid for 75% of replacement cost because they said i was a loyal customer . i own 2 hondas and an acura. My 2015 honda accord was just out of warranty period and 53000 miles when problem started. I had to change battery at around 37000 miles as well.

Purchases my 2015 Honda Accord EX with 50,000 miles. First encounter of this problem I thought I wasn’t pushing down on the brake hard enough to push start the car. When I would try to start it, it just clicks, doesn’t turn over. All my lights and radio lights turn on except the car. After 2-3 tries it comes on. Then there are some mornings where it starts no problem. Just hit and miss. I find myself always parking backwards just in case I might need to jump it. I’m thinking a car that is only 3-4 years old shouldn’t be going out. Took it to autozone, they ran a test on my car. Said the battery was at 89%, starter was fine b the alternator failed. post I’ve read said there was a recall I had no idea about. Going to start there and take it to Honda. Unfortunately I didn’t buy my Honda from a Honda dealership so I hope recalls are Honda’s responsibility. They’re really dropping the ball on this!!
Same thing happened to me. I have a 2015 Honda Accord with 29,000 miles. The car would not start, I thought it was the batter so I took it to Honda to have the batter replaced ($160). Later that day I am getting ready to go to work and the car doesn't turn on AGAIN. I took it back to the dealer and they tell me I need a new starter (cost $901). I was very ticked off...$1,100 on repairs on a car with 29,000...it's bs
Got my starter replace and thought my worries ended. I guessed wrong, 3 days of no issues it started happening again. Now sometimes it take 5 to 10 times of turning the key for the car to start. This happens so intermittently. Any thing else I can replace? I'm running out of options.
Do a parasitic drain test using a good multimeter with amps reading at the time That car wont start and isolate the problem.
Just had the same issue. Honda Accord Sport 2016 model. I have a remote starter and when I was it, it tells me the car's gear is not in park mode. really weird. I'm going to check it out tomorrow. jump start it or take it to the dealer. tried to start it multiple times but it's not going.
TSB 16-002. Change out starter and move torque converter one bolt hole over is honda’s Fix. It’ll cost you around 800 bucks Honda is on there 4th different starter spec for this starting issue. Lastest part number to use is 31200-5g0-a04. I’ve had rare issues with a grind or tick. May I suggest put it neutral and roll the vehicle a couple inches it will rotate the flex plate to a possible better spot to engage. Works for me
After reading these posts and searching for answers to my similar problem, just want to let everyone my experience. I have twin daughters whom I bought new 2015 Honda Accords in May 2015. The cars are identical (like my daughters :) except for the colors. The first Accord had the "wouldn't start" (would just hear "clicks" when turning the key) issue about 3 months ago (November 2018). When I looked at the size of the battery my first thought was that its much smaller than I am used to seeing, So after jumping it off, I went ahead and bought a new battery, which cost ~$185....Now, fast forward 3 months (February 2019), and sure enough the other Accord did the exact same thing (went dead and wouldn't crank) without notice. Since the car happened to be in my driveway when this happened, I didn't even think twice and went and bought a new battery for it....Now, my daughter with the first Accord told me today that her car almost did not start twice yesterday, but then started fine this morning, and so I'm thinking the second Accord will probably do the same thing soon, which is why I'm here looking for answers. So...for me to have the same problem from two identical cars proves that this issue IS a common problem with this model. From reading these posts, it sounds like I need to replace the starter in both of them?
I have a 2015 Honda Accord. Same issue with the starter. I have a brand new battery and replaced the starter TWICE, still does the same clicking. Disappointed with Honda. They must know of this problem but will not step up to fix it. Won't buy another Honda until this issue is solved. Greg
Hello All, I have a 2015 Honda Accord (70,000 miles) with this problem. The symptom for us was intermittent car starts that were a few weeks apart, then days apart, then almost everyday. Each time, press the start button and all would light up, security from the key fob all good, but just 1 click from the right side of the engine when sitting in the driver seat (no codes, and our battery was marginal around 12v, when it should be around 12.5v.) You could wait a few minutes and keep retrying and then it would start no problem. Obviously bad to deal with. After replacing the battery with the biggest one possible and the longest warranty (3 years) and also replacing the key fob battery to avoid an sort of RFID key/security issue - it appeared to be the starter motor. I took it to my mechanic and they did all the electrical checks to eliminate any sort of wiring problem to and from the starter. While in the shop, I talked to a company here in MA that specializes in rebuilding car starters and explained the issue to them. I described the make and model etc, explained only 70K miles with a bad starter. He said the age of vehicle and number of starts (running the starter motor) with the car are more important than miles. He said Honda back in 2013 changed the design of the starter to include the solenoid inside the starter case, rather than bolted on the outside of the starter, like their past design and typical designs - so it could be that the embedded solenoid is somewhat of a bad design (with some failures sooner that normal - like all of us in this thread) on this particular starter. He also said the engine was designed to only fit this compact type starter - so we are all somewhat stuck with a less reliable starter for this vehicle. Our mechanic, after testing all the electrical connections, concluded it was the starter and replaced it (about $600). We are two weeks after the repair and the car starts every time, all the time - problem solved. :-)
Had the same problem. Had the battery replaced. Then thought it must be the starter. My mechanic said it was the ignition switch. Had that changed for a new one yesterday. It started today; holding my breath for the next few weeks...........
Well, getting the new ignition switch worked for 1 1/2 days, then it wouldn't start again. After reading this entire blog, I'm going to try a new starter. If it starts well for at least several weeks I'm going to lose lots of money and trade it in for a Subaru or a Nissan. Honda's reputation does NOT hold up. Is it too late to get in on the class action suit started in 2017?
My sister in law have a 2015 Honda Accord Sport and her car wont start 4 times The car wont start. When we jumped start the battery and test the battery voltage It only reads 12.2 volts while the car is running. I turned of the car and charged the Battery with a battery charger until it full. I started the car again. This time the voltage reads 14.2 which is tells me the alternator is good. The problem is not the battery or the alternator or the starter. I believe somehow the battery voltage drops from 14.2 volts to 12.2 volts while its running which make the battery go weaker. I did a parasitic drain test there was a .26 amp draining the battery and i isolated it to a 15 amp fuse. I pulled the 15 amp fuse and the parasitic drain drop to .01 amp. I have to find the wiring print for this car so i can pinpoint the real problem.
Update: The 2015 Honda Accord Sport car won’t start is cause by a faulty battery Sensor. My battery sensor was replaced last June 2018 from a recall. Less than One year old sensor is bad. See service bulletin 17-057 Safety Recall: 2013-16 Accord Battery Management Sensor. Good luck
Exact same issue with my 2015 Honda Accord. This is so frustrating!
I have a 2014 Accord Sport with 110,000 miles and I am having the same intermittent starting problem. After reading about the issue, I don't feel comfortable going to Honda for a $700 starter replacement. I haven't taken it to them because I prefer to order a Bosch starter from RockAuto and have my local non Honda shop install it. I'll be sure to have them look at TSB 16-002 for the specifics. Of course I'm not sure if that will fix my problem but I'm not sure if Honda knows exactly what will fix the problem either. At least this way I can keep my costs lower as I work thru the problem. I still plan to contact Honda corporate & file a complaint and state that I'm not taking to dealer because of cost and uncertainty of the diagnosis and fix. I will also file a complaint with NHTSA. I will try to update later.
Same exact issue for me! They need to do a recall on this!!
Okay you guys heres the nitty gritty. 2015 accord sport 152k. Ive been through 3 batteries and about 6 sets of headlight bulbs. No starter problems and no alternator problems. You guys should know that this car has a special charging system not like normal cars. The alternator does not run constantly like most cars, it will only charge the battery at 12.6volts unless their is enough of a power draw then it will charge normally. If you have the alternator tested at autozone, pepboys ect. It will almost always fail! (Turn on all exterior and interior lights and air con to have it kick into full charing mode) I figured this out from my buddy who is a honda technician. The car consistantly will hop from low charging to high charging you will see a small drop in RPM and at night you will see the HL lights dim. I have a strong suspicion this is the ultimate cause of the starting issues. The headlight bulbs i have replaced have been the result of the charging system hopping back and forth between low and high charge. Ive even replaced 3 bad relays. The Omron relays honda uses have a normal life expectancy of 20years. They are some of the best relays on the market and hardly ever need to be replaced. I think this specific charging system is putting a huge strain on the electronics in the car, which has an already small battery (this is why we all replace so many batteries often). Im not sure which component specifically but some electronic system is getting tore up by the charging system and causing these problems. Dont be afraid to check the relays under the hood. Small black box near the air filter box. Has a diagram on it. I reccomend long needle nose pliars to remove. Use the horn as a tester slot, if your horn wont blow while switching the black 12vdc relays around you got a bad relay. Had a new problem/starting issue today. Cranks and starts but won't idle then the VDC check engine and TPMS light blinks. Never had this problem before but I'm suspecting a relay. Will let you know. Also dont be afraid to search for TSB's (trouble shooting buliten) may have to pay for access but its documents known problems for certain vehicles year specific where mechanics working with mfg have found a fix!!! Happy hunting and good luck!
Also have a 2015 Accord ex-l V6. Having same some issues with having to regularly change batteries. Car has problems with dragging to start before it finally turns over. It left me stranded twice. Totally not a happy Honda customer. Was considering a new Honda but I don't want another vehicle that will leave me stranded at the drop of a hat. Something is draing the battery and the aleternator is not keeping up with the charge. Sometimes i have revved my car at 2000rpm when i park for about 30 seconds so that it forces a battery charge and gives me enough juice to start the next time i return to the car.
Started having this problem about a month ago. I refuse to put time and money into dealer it's this, no it's that, actually it must be that. Time for a trade. We have had nothing but Honda's (5 at this moment) and I will not buy another. Car is a 2015 Accord with a brand new battery last year. Lots of local driving so starting a few times a day is too much to have to deal with it starting or not every time. Now I'm up to needing to try 5 times sometimes to get it to start. I've had enough!!!
My issue started about a month ago. I have a 2015 Accord coupe with 70g miles. Push the start button and it would just go to power on mode, but not start. On July 3, it finally decided to wouldn’t start at all. I got it jumped, headed to the auto parts store and they advised me the alternator was dead. So, after purchasing the alternator for $416.00 and paying a friend $100 to install, I thought all was ok. Nope, still intermittently struggles to start. I’m guessing I have a starter issue too, but really scared to dump more money into the car to only wind up with the same issue continuing to happen.
I've been having a similar problem lately. I was sure it was the battery. Got it replaced. Same problem. I also downloaded the service bulletin on the battery management sensor. It passed the tests. I ordered a OBD-II bluetooth data monitor and it was very enlightening. The alternator prefers to come on when you are going down hill or letting off on the gas in eco mode. AC kind os does the same thing (a hybrid design). That way they can perform well in both HP and mileage tests... The battery sensor is a big part of this optimization. For an experiment, try taking your car OUT of eco mode for a while and see if that helps/harms the process. As it stands now, it sometimes takes a few tries but it has never left me stranded. I took off the battery terminal, cleaned it, and tightened the battery sensor connections. Seemed to help but didn't completely solve the problem... Perhaps I'll check out the log data with my eco mode OFF tomorrow....
Update: New battery for $146.00 - worked great for about 5 days. Now it's intermittent with starting again. I am ready to trade this in. NOT FOR ANOTHER HONDA. This is BS for a 2015 Honda. Same stupid stuff for me so I contacted the NHTSA and made a complaint just as the other guy on the forum here said to do. THE MORE THE BETTER. I just called ,done! THANKS MEVALLE13
2014 Accord EX-L. I just got my starter replaced today. I got a new battery this year, new spark plugs this year, and got the battery sensor from the recall. In the past three months, starting was getting worse and worse. Most recently, it took up to 5 pushes of the ignition button to get the car to start. Battery was registering at 12.6 volts. The car has 126,570 miles, but I don’t care. I expect 10 years out of a Honda starter. The sticker price of the car was $31,000. My complaint is also headed to the NHTSA. Honda is profiting from a garbage starter by charging $408 for a factory reman and $545 for brand new OEM. Absolutely unacceptable!
I have a 2015 Honda Accord with 54K miles. I had to replace the battery at 40K miles. I recently had the same intermitten starting problem that many of you described. Sometimes I have to turn the ignition key 20 times for the car to start. I brought the car to the Honda dealer. They probably saw 100 of similar cases. However, they acted as if my starting problem is a rare case, and charged me $650 to replace the starter. I am disappointed with both Honda and the dealer. H Nguyen
I just had this problem with my 2015 honda accord coupe. Owned 4.5 years, 54K miles. Starter and ignition button had to be replaced at an original quote of $1100 because it was out of warranty. I found all of the info online that this was a known issue (starters failing) with 2013-3015 accords. I called Honda America customer service. After ten minutes of requesting that they start a case file for my complaint and escalate to a supervisor, and the lady refusing, I then stated I would be lodging a complaint with the NHSTB. She then said she’d speak with a supervisor and low and behold I was allowed to file a case. I was called back within two business days and they offered to replace starter and ignition for $400 and give me a new 3 year/36K warranty on it. I accepted, it was fixed this week and I still filed a NHSTB complaint. I’d suggest all people having this problem do so. A lawsuit filed in 2017 in NJ for this known issue was thrown out, with one reason being there were not enough complaints filed to indicate a pattern.

I am having the same issue. I have a 2015 Honda Accord Sport. I've had to replace my battery twice now. Until about 3 - 4 weeks ago, my car was working fine until my ignition wouldn't start when I turned the key. I thought perhaps it was the battery again, but it wasn't acting the same way it was before. Before when the battery had gone out, nothing in the vehicle would turn on. But everything turns on now. Everything electrical in the vehicle works fine. I have to turn the key dozens of times before the vehicle finally starts. I took it in to a mechanic but they couldn't reproduce the issue so they could not do anything to fix it. It's intermittent, the issue. So it's very frustrating. I have an appointment scheduled tomorrow for two recalls on my vehicle; the faulty battery sensor and some sort of update. Hopefully one of these recalls will fix the problem.
My 2015 Accord Touring V6 wouldn't start today. Happened once before to my husband but started the second try for him. When I press the start button, I hear a click and the lights flash on the dash, but the car won't turn over. I noticed the door lights and the ceiling lights were working, so the battery isn't dead. The recall for the sensor was done. Also, I had to have the rear brakes completely redone at 60,000 kms. They were worn completely down. I don't think that was normal wear.
@Guruk4rbx: see my answer from 2 weeks ago, two posts above yours. Sounds like you are having the same issue that I did. It’s a known problem, file a complaint.

I have the same start up issue on 2015 Accord Sport - sometimes no click but all dash lights are ON. Then after a few tries, the car would start as normal with no hesitation, even at -10 deg C. I have a new battery from last year already and battery sensor recall service performed. So this must be the lousy starter problem! I can’t do the NHSTB complaint route as I am in Canada. However, that is an excellent idea for HONDA to acknowledge this defect. I plan to keep going with the car but would a carry along jump start auxiliary battery help (more battery power) if I can’t start up the car after say 5 tries, given this starter problem?
It’s really disappointing. I never expect a relatively new car would have starter issue! My wife is driving 2015 Honda Accord and won’t start randomly. Sometimes jumper works but other times won’t. I will shop for different car maker next time..

UPDATE: I figured out the starter changeout was no big deal (from several YouTubes) if there was access to hoist up my car. So I shopped around for a rebuild starter (only the solenoid winding needs to be replaced new as this is pretty much the only wear and tear portion). I found the part at RockAuto for my 2015 Accord 4 Cyl. and by the time I contacted a local garage, they had a better deal with local supplier part and labour for approximately the same price. So for under Cdn$300, I replaced the starter a month ago. Now the car starts reliably EVERY time. Just talk to a local general garage and you maybe surprised with what they can offer - at less than half price compared to the Honda dealer garage.
Same with my 2015 Accord. All of a sudden it started giving me problems when starting it then finally the battery died. Replaced it and the problem remains and I don't know if my car will start from one day to the next. Mechanic said starter and radiator is all good. I have always had Hondas and this will sadly be the last.
Yep, add me to the list of complains. I have a 2015 Accord and a few months ago it wouldn't start, just the clicking noise, eventually it will start. Sometimes it starts on the 2nd or 3rd try or it takes 2 days for it to start, which happened 2 weeks ago. I changed the battery to a 500 amp, but the problem remains. After reading this thread and talking with my mechanic (I had to stop going to my Honda dealership because they would lie to me every time I went for an oil change or regular upkeep, saying my roaders were bad and quoting $700 to fix or that I need to replace the air filter for $100 when I had just put one in and my now mechanic showed me why I didn't need new roaders) we've decided to try and fix the starter problem concerning the solenoid part. And I'm definitely filing a complaint with NHTSA and suggest everyone else do the same.
Same thing happened with our 2015 Honda Accord Sport. Currently 69,000 miles and it would randomly not start. Takes about 4-5 trys to get the car started but the more annoying thing sometimes it's perfectly fine. Took the car to the dealer and they said it was a starter issue and that they've seen it on SEVERAL 2015 accords but no recalls yet. We were quoted 595 including tax which seems like it was on the lower end of quotes after going through this thread. I just filed a claim with the nhtsa, super quick and easy and I encourage everyone with the same issue to do so. https://www- odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/VehicleComplaint
Same thing on my 2015 Honda Accord. Some times won't start but will start after a couple of times. Alternator and battery good. Probably not going to buy a Honda Accords any more.
With the hood open I was trying to test the battery when the car didn't start on the first time, I left the ignition in the 'ON' position, I heard a whining (high pitch) tone coming from the back on the engine. This happen 2 times.

Folks 2015 era Accord not starting due to starter failure is an unexpected pain and big disappointment. Worst yet, leading to this failure, car does start after several tries as if nothing happened! So this premature failure is a HONDA short coming. Make HONDA publicly embarrassed and cover your cost if you can. But, to move on with this issue, just get a replacement refurbished starter installed. Don’t bother with dealer high cost and new OEM starter to get this done. The only refurbished new part needed is the coil windings (aka magnetic wires). Any jobber rebuild will do. Just have to make sure the refurb starter is for your 4 cyl or 6 cyl car.
I have a 2015 Honda Accord. I was having the issue of car not starting. After a few times of not starting, my husband would lift the hood turn the alternator just a slight turn with his hand and when I would push button to start it would start right up. Which he determined was a shorting out in the starter since he could slightly move the alternator and it would restart. He called around to several Honda dealers to get opinions. One said that was very odd (we think he knew exactly what we were talking about), but the rest of the dealerships said it was very common problem and it was more than likely a starter issue and thank you very much if you came in for repairs that will be $600.00. We said no thank you to that and my husband removed the starter and took it to our local starter rebuild shop....charge $50.00. My husband put the starter back on and so far so good. If anyone is having this issue then I suggest don't hesitate to try a rebuild. It saved us $550.00. The rebuild shop said the starter issue was a very common with that particular starter. Hope this helps!
I have the same problem with my 2015 Accord Sport, the problem started in October 2015, 1st I thought it's bad contact or relay before the starter. I mentioned about it at the dealership during my service in January 2020, they said it's starter and will cost me about $900. I said will take 2nd opinion. The problem worsen over time and yesterday it took 15 min. on gas station before the engine finally started. Today I examine the problem using stethoscope... I can hear the click inside the starter, but it will not crank. New/refurbish starter at Autozone is in $200 - $300 range. I found on Ebay company sailing refurbish starters for about $70 https://www.ebay.com/itm/Honda-Accord-Sport-2-4L-2013-2014-2015-2016-2017-Starter-Motor-Cvt-Automatic/193294176888 It will cost me $100 to replace the starter.
Sorry for my typo. The problem started in October 2019 (not 2015).
Im having the same " Car will not start on first attempt, I hear click each time I turn the key, finally starts" problem. Its interesting what response's I get as I talk to various part stores. Auto Zone said it was the alternator ( $440.00 cost)because it was only showing 12.5 charging volts. I asked then how does it start finally if the alternator is bad? He said it doesn't matter its the alternator. I then went to Oreiley's and they also said the alternator but I showed them where the alternator for Honda's will drop down to 12.5 volts if battery fully charged and low load. After I stopped the car and they verified the battery was good , they said its definitely the starter then. I called Honda and they said it was the starter and to bring it in. I took the starter out and it bench tested good at three part stores even though one guy tested it at the wrong voltage. I haven't put it back in the car yet , want to research more. So if we hear a click that means some voltage is getting to the internal solenoid. Could it be the ignition switch? I'll pull that tomorrow and check it. Wiring is in good shape no signs of corrosion.
Has anyone else got their old starter bench tested before they installed a new one or got theirs refurbished?
Rue_Shamrock answered 4 years ago
Why bother with bench testing? For curiosity, sure you can do that later, I suppose. The least costly way forward is to have the starter rebuilt by a local specialized shop with new solenoid - magnetic wires and new electrical connections. The scenario is the same as rebuilding an electrical motor winding. Or, just buy a ready rebuild starter... For most of us, a car down not working is just a painful inconvenience so fastest recovery without spending too much is usually the best. No?
I have 2015 Accord with 95000 miles. Bought new in Dec 2014. Just started having the intermittent starter issue about 3 weeks ago.

I have a 2015 Accord with 72k and we just landed in this world. It is intermittent and today I was nearly stranded a the post office. After having many Honda's, this is the first issue I've had. So sad and not looking forward to the idea of having to buy a new starter.
I have a 2015 Honda Accord with 90k miles and this issue happened to me 2 months ago, the car would start up right away and sometimes it would take 2 or 3 clicks to start. Replaced the starter and have had no issues for a month

2015 Honda Accord 85k miles. Had the issue of not starting and would startup after 8 clicks. Check my connections and found my ground cable from body to negative terminal loose. Tighten cable , no luck still . Changed out my starter and everything runs fine now , no issues since then

My 2015 Accord just started having this same problem. I doubt it is the battery, alternator or starter, as all these issues have distinct and different symptoms than this, and should be easily diagnosed by a technician. My guess is that either the ignition switch is in the process of failing, or the sensor/switch that detects and insures that the vehicle is in park or neutral before allowing the engine to crank is failing. An intermittent failure in either of these components would explain the symptoms described. I suppose a manufacturing defect in the starter that causes an intermittent electrical connection could be the cause as well, but I think that would have showed up before the 52K miles I have put on my Accord.
A SOLUTION I FOUND I had the same problem with my 2015 Honda Accord Sport. For seemingly no reason, it wouldn’t start for a couple of tries, then suddenly would start. It was strange that sometimes I’d pop the hood with the ignition on and suddenly the dashboard would light up and start the car would start. THE SOLUTION IN MY CASE was that the nut that connects the battery cable to the battery clamp that fits over the battery terminal was just a little loose. A little movement would create contact or disconnect. Simply tightening that bolt has solved the problem for me. Hope this helps!

I have a 2015 Honda accord sports sometimes don't crank engine battery and atterneter Is okay .I need you're helf.
Try your spare key. Cranked first try with the spare. Battery for the key is CR1620. That is cheaper than a battery you may not need and the starter plus labor charge.

Having same issue, thought maybe it had something to do with my USB port which also doesn’t work at times when trying to charge my cellphone. Each mechanic i have asked said has nothing to do with each other. I am going to dig in my pocket and have the starter replaced tomorrow. Not very happy that cause Honda has had a recall on the Starter on 2015 Honda Accords Recall JP 2 but they asked my Vin number and said my car is not included in the recall. Odd that they have an issue, then my car has the issue but Honda doesn’t deem my VIN number car to be an issue. SMH. I am hoping the starter replacement is effective
I submitted an answer here but it seems to have disappeared so I'm posting this again. Try replacing the battery in your remote clicker. I had the same issue, I would turn the key forward, all the panel lights would come on and I would hear one click, and the car would not start. Ran Diagnostics and a starter, alternator, battery are all good. He said he has seen this issue before and if you replace the battery in your remote clicker, the battery controls the microchip which starts your car. So it might be a simple fixed, as easy as just changing the battery in a remote control clicker. So try that before spending so much money replacing the starter.
Sorry about the typos in the previous post, I was voice texting and in a hurry. But hopefully it makes sense.
Also, if you have an AutoZone or an O'Reilly's or some kind of auto parts store like that which will run Diagnostics on your car, have them check and see if your starter, alternator, and battery are all testing good to rule out those problems. If it's one click noise and the car won't start but sometimes it intermittently starts, it may just be your starter relay instead. And it's only like $10 to replace that. Plus labor if you don't know how to do it yourself
I was hoping to change the solenoid on the starter then read the post below.(solenoid is inside the starter on 2015 Accord) The post below makes the most since to me but I'm sure their may be different causes for different cars. After reading how many Honda vehicles are effected by this issue and with no response from Honda I can honestly say I will not purchase another Honda vehicle! That's after purchasing 4 new Honda vehicles in the past 15 years. :-)
