Air compressor failure after engine replacement

I had to have my engine replaced after the
mechanic failed to replace the oil plug
correctly.  I got the car back and there were
problems with the AC blowing even when off,
and a start and stopping feeling coming from
the engine. Mechanic said it was air
conditioner control. They fixed that and
MINUTES after getting the car back again the
the AC compressor literally blew out. There re
82 k miles on the car. Are these likely
connected?

I have to add—this was after the compressor clutch was repaired, and the engine sounded like it literally blew up. There was a gigantic air escape, sound of firecrackers under the hood, and the engine started smoking.
