why is my oil and temperature light on and engine knocking on my 4.6 expedition

Oil light, check oil, temperature light, starting to overheat, engine knocking, ran it low on oil...

You might have a bad or plugged up oil filter or a bad oil sending unit. You might also have very low oil pressure indicating a worn engine or bad oil pump. The knocking is telling me you have a serious engine problem.
