I have a 2016 Ford Edge, purchased last May and both sun-roofs are cracked in spider web design. My dealer tells me they will warranty the back section but the front ($1500.00) is on my dime. This vehicle lives in garage AND IT IS VERY WELL CARED FOR. It also covered by bumper to bumper warranty, why????
I've had the panoramic sunroof on my 2015 Edge now crack THREE times! These are strange wavy cracks, not your normal spider webs. One time it was covered, the second time, they found a rock chip near the waves (well yes, now that it cracked, I'm sure a rock would do additional damage) and wouldn't cover it. Now it has happened again and we will see if Western Slope Auto will repair it. I'm so done. It's defective glass.

I own a 2016 Edge and had both panoramic sun roofs crack with low mileage. Cost over 7000.00 to replace and I had a bumper to bumper coverage. I have been a Ford customer and have owñed 25 vehicles. I also have had leakage of moisture around my tail lights and my dealer negotiated a $750.00 settlement. If Ford wants to sell units they better look after customers they do have instead of denying claims.

Your lucky ours cracked at 12,000 km and they said it was a rock chip also and dealer paid my insurance premium. The rear glass cracked also in the pattern you described and they replaced . Cost of both from Ford $7000 Should not be happening.
Now have a 2nd issue with my 2015 Edge... Cracked the first time 6 months after purchase and the dealership covered it. Now it's cracked again, wavy cracks in different areas. Called the dealership and was told to file an insurance claim. Told them that I would contact an attorney. Have been a loyal Ford man since 1990. Thinking Subaru Outback now... However, advised by my attorney to file a claim with my insurance company and ask them to seek subrogation, the insurance company method of going after the motor company, recovering their costs and also your deductible.
Western Slope Ford is now fighting with Ford to cover ours. Because WSF didn't want to install it last time, they sent me to a third party. Because of that, Ford says they won't warranty it. I'm hoping for a positive resolution. Bottom line, don't use glass as a roof. I'd love it if they would just install a normal roof at this point.
I have a 2015 Edge with 35K miles and the glass cracked from the front to the back over the passenger side of the vehicle for no apparent reason while parked in an open parking lot. I've contacted Purvis Ford to file a warranty claim, but the appointment was scheduled 5 days out, Tues 3-27-18. I've never owned anything other than Chevy before purchasing this Ford, so I'm waiting to see how Ford defines customer satisfaction.

We should all get together and file a class action suit. The dealers aren't the problem the manufacturer is they sure didn't mind taking our money. All manufacturers have problems it's how they solve them that's important. Appreciate any feed back.
Well, currently, FORD has denied replacing the glass under warranty because our dealership sent us to a glass expert for installation. Western Slope Auto is trying to throw their hands up and say, sorry too bad. SO frustrated.
My 2017 Ford Edge Sport's vista roof front glass has been replaced 2 times in the first 6 months of ownership due to cracking. No exterior chips or damage. Ford has denied claim. Insurance has had to replace twice. Ford knows they have a problem, but refuse to admit it.
Please there is a CLASS ACTION happening for these sunroofs. Mine will open but won’t close. Dealership said they fixed, before leaving service dept. we tested the sunroof open but still crawled slow and it automatically rolled to open. Had the service guys take the vehicle and they closed it. But are going to make an appointment to replace. But damn, will Ford just replace with another defective sunroof? To show just how many complaints there still is we have to go to NHTSA and file a complaint. Ford has an open investigation on this and the more complaints filed the more pressure for a recall.
Here is a link to the entire filing of CLASS ACTION http://terrellmarshall.com/wp- content/uploads/2018/01/534785.pdf File a complaint about glass and non closing sunroofs here: https://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/VehicleComplaint/
Mine is 2015 ford edge with cracked moon roof, and dealer told me its not covered since its over 60,000 km. Is that sucks! I probably wont have ford anymore. FORD SUCKS!
Same issue with my 2015 Edge Titanium (supposedly top-of-line). Sunroof glass cracked in wavy pattern while parked in the lot at work. No apparent reason other than poor quality glass that can't take the sun in Philadelphia, PA. Factory 36 mos warranty expired; I have the extended warranty (cost $$$ at time of purchase), we'll see if they cover it or give me grief. Thank you for this website & thread. I'll post my complaint to the NHTSA website like recommended above.
My wife drives a 2016 Edge. The front sunroof developed a crack which went across the front in a wavy line. Now the back of the front sunroof has developed a separate wavy line...not connected to the first. Dealer service says they can see the point of impact and it caused the damaged, such as a rock chip. Frustrated.
Western Slope Ford was finally able to get Ford to pay for the back part of the panoramic roof that they had replaced last year. It took some time because they had a glass installer install it last time and Ford said it was a third party install, so no. But, we still had to go through insurance for the front part of it since Ford refused because of a rock chip last year. If you don't already have glass insurance, you are going to need it for that lovely roof. It will continue to crack and if Ford sees anything that remotely looks like a rock chip, it's on you.
I have also had glass issues with my 2016 Edge. In fact have had my glass replaced 4 times. The glass cracks for no reason. I also believe there is a manufacturer defect. My back rear window has also shattered from closing the driver door. So frustrating. Thank you for the link.
I just started having the issue of it opening and slow crawl closing, only to get to a certain point and it opens back up. Have to force it closed while someone holds the button. I've only had it for 2 years. Looks like it's a well known problem. Good thing I purchased extended warranty, looks like I'll need it.
Just noticed my wavy cracks on my Edge 2015 with 32k miles. So upset about this! Will see what local dealership says - this is why I didn’t want such a huge sunroof but my husband talked me into it! First issue I had was noises and slow closing. The dealership cleaned the mechanism and no other issues until now.

Just checked my 2017 edge - wierd cracks in the sunroof, none of which connect with each other as you would expect if caused by impact. My ford dealer gave the same story - caused by impact. Sent photos to ford. They said same thing. Warranty won’t cover the 7 month old, 6000 mile car. $1300 to repair. Told me to contact insurance co. Ford shouldn't be allowed to get away with this...
I have the same problem and I couldn’t even get my local dealer to look at it. Just a blanket we don’t cover glass.
Hello I smell a class action here. My 2017 Ford Edge with a cracked sunroof. I mean seriously I just discovered this today. Will take into my dealer and see how they will handle. There is no WAY this is from a rock...
Just purchased a 2015 edge sport. Back glass on roof was cracked first day we bought off lot. 20k miles. Now sunroof rattles and creeks. I will definitely join in a class action. Email is Timmckinnon5075@gmail.com
2016 Lincoln MKX with 43K Kilometers. Front sunroof crack all around perimeter. Waiting Ford decision.
Ughh just got in my 2015 Edge and my glass roof is cracked :( garage kept and hasn't been driven in 6 days!
My 2017 Ford Edge with the same wavy cracked glass at back sunroof. I will contact the dealership and see what they say. I will also file complaint to NHTSA.

I have a 2015 Ford Edge Titanium, last Sunday I got into my car and noticed a small crack in the moonroof, couldn’t feel the crack on the inside or outside. Drove to the grocery store and went to get gas, as I pull into the gas station I hear and loud crack, and the small crack turned into a huge wavy circle right above my head on the drivers side. Still can’t feel on either side. I purpled extended warrenty and they won’t cover it, no sign of a rock, or any other damage. Insurance is covering it but I still have to pay my $200 deductible. Taking it to the ford dealership, getting ford made glass because if this happens again I want to through it in their face that it was repaired by Ford with Ford Parts. My insurance gave me no problem with covering it.
2015 as well, just had mine crack for a 3rd time. First 2 we were under warranty and they covered, just sent an email to the dealership this week about the new crack but I’m off warranty now so I doubt they will cover.
I went to Ford dealership and they took pictures. Called to come back so they could get more pictures. They used a penlight this time and of course thought there was some outer damage. I told them, “no way”. I would have heard a big rock. Cracks getting worse. I spoke with service manager and told him all my concerns ( with info from these posts). He said Ford should cover it since it is under warranty ( 2017, 13k miles). I said what happens after my warranty. I can’t keep filing insurance claims for all the “rocks” that apparently may hitmy sunroof. He said if it happens again under 36months, Ford should cover it. Then I would have some sort of automatic 1 yr warranty extension after month 33?? I said what about after that? “Over 100 people on the internet getting hit by rocks only in these model cars with panoramic sunroofs? I don’t think so”. He said if it happened a third time he would help me force Ford to give me a vehicle replacement. I got him to admit that others were coming in for the same problem, “but I haven’t heard of people replacing them 3 and 4 times”. I told him they were and it is a defective system. Got a call back that Ford has approved a replacement. Since dealership doesn’t “do glass” they are having a glass company come install a Ford sunroof ( they are ordering it today) at the dealership. Does that sound ok? I said people on the internet say if you use an outside installer... Ford will not cover anything if it happens again. They said “no, they are a Ford Authorized glass company”. Please advise. Where is our class action suit?
Kristigraves04 answered 5 years ago
Ugh! This just happened to me today. 2015 ford edge sport. No impact just happened.. I have an apt but i fear for the worst also! Wavy crack across front glass! Damnit
I think we all need to complain to Ford. If it happens three times that is the lemon law and they should give you a new car. No sunroof for me next time
Gunnar82495 answered 5 years ago
Has anyone continued to drive with the glass cracked? Has anyone driven with the glass open? I’m trying to see if this happens again how long and how well the glass will hold up if I can’t afford my desirable again to replace it. If you go through Ford for the replacement, I’m going back to the dealership where I bought it at. Is there any type of warrenty on This new peice of glass if it does crack again?
My 2016 edge with 20k miles, just noticed cracked rear sunroof glass. $1k to fix. Same answer from dealer as others received...something struck it. I don’t buy it as I rarely drive the car and sits parked most of time. Dealer will buy glass but won’t install. Crazy.
yes, I had the same issue with my Ford Edge 2015 Titanium panoramic sunroof. don't use the sunroof very often, and open it this March when reached 78Km and found it cracked.
Mine just cracked today while I was drying the car off From washing it. Hopefully Ford fixes this
Papawolf101 answered 5 years ago
I have a detailer that washes my car every other week. Because of rain it has been 3 weeks this time. He noticed cracks this time that were not there last time. I wasn't there but he said they were not joined but were on both sides of the front glass. I got home and the cracks are making a big loop from the sides, they join in the back 1/4 of the glass and there is another crack between the two side cracks. I used to work aircraft and you never get three stress cracks if the first two are joined! The stress should make the first two that have joined break completely! I am taking it to my dealer tomorrow to see what they have to say...
if you all would post your complaints in the right forum such as the NHSTA web site they would push Ford to recall the problem. Until then keep paying for your repairs!!!!
Papawolf101 answered 5 years ago
Brandon, I'm sorry, I was wondering if there was enough to have them open an investigation. Probably the same for most of us here. Thank you for your sage advice and brilliant assistance! Without people like you most of the worlds population wouldn't be able to pick our own noses. Here, let me get some toilet paper so you can wipe me clean after kissing me where toilet paper gets used! If you are not going to help, STFU!!!
****UPDATE***** I have to agree with Papawolf on his comments. We are all in this together and YES I have posted by complaint to NHSTA as many have. Additionally, I have found out there is a class action complaint and have spoken to the law firm and given my feedback. I would suggest you all do the same as it would help them greatly. The contact info is (also google this for more info): Terrell Marshall Law Group PLLC 936 N 34th St, Ste 300, Seattle, WA 98103 Main: 206.816.6603 | Lastly, I had my rear moonroof glass replace at dealer for about a cool $1,000. That hurt, but what I found out was that the glass they removed was allegedly laminated but the OEM glass they installed was tempered. This would be a huge improvement I hope and probably why it cost so much.
Gunnar82495 answered 5 years ago
Wouldn’t you want laminated glass that way if it cracks the seal will still keep the glass together. If your tempered glass cracks then your whole roof is gonna shatter.
Well, I am a victim of a cracked sunroof glass too. Same story...nothing hit it...just driving down the interstate and heard an extremely LOUD noise. I thought somebody threw something at me. Got home and investigated....CRACKED
Psimon642—-thanks for info on law firm .. same thing here...crack on panoramic part of sunroof.purchased last year January used2015 edge.. only 33,000 miles...won’t get covered it’s at dealership right now waiting to see how much I’m going to have to pay ...just contacted Terrel Marshall Law to put in complaint as mentioned above.

Just noticed cracks yesterday on my 2016 Ford Edge. The cracks follow the same as what everyone on here are saying. Thank you for the information.
FordEdge2016 answered 5 years ago
Warranty on my Ford Edge 2016 will not cover. Ford dealership wants $971.87 up front before they order the rear moon roof window. This does NOT include labor. Have not called insurance company yet but that's next on my list. Filed a complaint with NHTSA too.
Same as all the rest. Bought 2015 Ford edge certified has 40,000 miles on it got the full extended warranty with it and back stationary glass panel has spider like crack on back right side corner. Dealership sent in pictures to Ford and they said it was caused by impact of a rock or something and wont cover it. I will file complaint with NHTSA too
I have a 2016 Ford Edge that I just noticed the exact same cracking that everyone else is experiencing. I spoke with my local dealer and they said they would not cover the repairs and that I would have to contact Ford directly. I called Ford and they said they have never heard of heard of this. BS! My car is in mint condition. I had a service tech tell me that there may be a defect with the track and that it is putting too much tension on the glass.
Dealer fixed mine (read above) but only since warranty still good. I think I have enough documentation to show them if it happens again. New glass is holding up. I never, ever, open sunroof or touch those buttons. File a complaint at NHTSA. Maybe someone will start another class action suit and we will all be covered.

We have just discovered our pano glass roof has spider web cracks throughout. 2015 Ford Edge SEL 42k miles Gsb1981@me.com
Mine is a 2015 Edge Titanium. I'm in Florida. I thought is was water when I opened the sun roof. Geico won't fix it.States it's wear and tear. Ford dealer said it's not covered. What's my next step?
Gunnar82495 answered 5 years ago
I would go back to your insurance company, they rpoiabbkt arnt understanding what happens correctly. Just one secontion of the glass is about $1,600 dollars. If you don’t have full coverage on your car then you may be screwed.
Gregboulanger answered 5 years ago
Isn’t it covered under glass coverage?
2016 rear glass cracked 09/23/2019. Ford only selling tempered glass now. They said laminated not strong enough. Auto insurance covering because they believe something struck the roof. Nothing hit it. I pulled over and nothing in a 200' radius. Only going 25 mph. Filed complaint with NHTSA. Now contacting Terrell Marshall Law Group to join class action lawsuit.
I sent the Terrell Law group an email even though Ford covered my glass replacement since under warranty. I am nervous it may happen again after warranty.
Well, I just discovered last weekend that I am another victim of the mysterious wavy cracks found on the large section of my 2015 Ford Edge Titanium sunroof/moonroof glass. Shocked since I have only used it maybe 2 times since my purchase 18 months ago. I filed a complaint with NHTSA, and will also join the class action lawsuit mentioned in one of the above posts. I am appreciative of everyone who has responded to this issue on this site. Hopefully with enough complaints/reports, Ford will step up and reimburse their customers for this defect. If Ford continues to deny fault, then obviously they will be losing many future customers, like myself.
2015 Ford Edge with less than 35,000 miles. Fixed panel of vista roof cracked from no apparent cause. Dealer contacted Ford recently. No response yet.
Update. Dealer agreed the cracks looked suspicious. They took photos and sent in a request to Ford for coverage even though out of warranty. Ford denied the request. Insurance estimate was $1873. I’m out my $1000 deductible for a structural issue Ford refuses to admit. My last Ford.
Reposting my insights in case other did not see it. - I have posted by complaint to NHSTA as many have. Just drove 15 miles, sunroof fine, then- zig- zag crack all across the sunroof glass, I have a 2017 Ford Edge, 27,500 miles, less than 36 months old.
I hardly ever open the sunroof but decided to yesterday & noticed a wavy crack in my glass. It is not impact damage. Glad to find the info in the class action and ability to have the insurance company pursue subrogation for the design flaw.
I have a 2018 Ford Edge SLE. Went to open the vista roof and found it to be cracked also. Only been open once before. I took it to the dealer and they inspected it and found no chip in it what so ever. They called and spoke to Ford, and Ford agreed to replace it.
2015 Edge Titanium 37K miles. Cracks in rear panorama sunroof. Out of nowhere. Nothing hit my car. It stays parked most of the time. I only found out about about cracks today when they appraised it at a dealership for trade in value. If my deal doesn't go through, will definitely be making complaints and checking into class action suit.
2017 Edge Sport cracked twice in the first year and I haven't bothered to replace it a second time knowing it will happen again. Drove a 2015 Edge Titanium for 2 years before and it cracked too within the first year. Reach out to me if a class action comes out of this.
2017 Ford Edge Titanium, 18,000 miles, cracked panoramic roof. Ford wont cover said it has a stone chip. I call BS, they still wont cover it. I think the insurance companies should start a class action suit. Last ford I will ever purchase.
2015 Edge with 28,000 miles and low and behold... I'll have to join these concern lawsuits and at the same time start and see if my local dealer deals with it or tells me what needs to happen... This really is sad to see as I read all the comments above and it's a very common problem.
Well just noticed our rear panoramic glass is broken. Dealer had ours earlier this year to change out the entire track assuming due to an issue. Removed windshield headliner etc. Called to complain to dealer and said call your insurance company. Its not their problem. This is BS.
I called the law firm handling class action suit. They are only handling complaints out West. Told me to pursue legal action with attorney on East coast. Where does everyone live? Just the state.
Just noticed the same wavy cracks today in my 2015 Ford Edge Sport. Car is in garage all day except to take kids to and from school. I’m in Florida and would be happy to join in on a class action suit. Also will be contacting NHSTA. This should not be happening!
Ford paid my $1K déductible and ordered the glass. They said they don’t “do” glass so my insure sent me to one of their approved glass people. The glass and deductible were a wash, but they did install shatterproof glass. Not sure I want that, either.
I have the 2015 Edge Titanium, I purchased brand new. I have 70,000 miles. It is babied and garaged all the time. Just found a crack in my glass too. I am afraid to open it. This is unbelievable. This is my second Edge and the first one did not crack and I used it all the time. I guess I will call my dealership.

I have a 2013 Ford Edge that the weather stripping has deteriorated on the moon roofs due to the harsh California conditions. Dealership said I needed to repair both moon roofs to the tune of $5,000 each, not including labor. I called safelight they don't repair this issue. I called Sunroof Express, they will fix it at a cost of $3,000. Does anyone know of a place that I can get this issue fixed?
Guru9W46CN answered 3 years ago
Yes. I have a 2015 Ford Edge. I’m the original owner. Happened the first time in 2017 and again in 2020. Same wavy lines everyone else describes. Also noticed the really slow to close issue others mentioned. Both times Ford wouldn’t warranty because they said it was a rock chip. I never heard a rock hit the roof, just had the cracks suddenly appear. Thankfully insurance covered it, but I shouldn’t have to keep replacing my sunroof if this is a factory issue!

I have a 2015 Ford Edge Sport, rear sun roof cracks in weird wavy lines. Nothing hit the roof. I also have a leaky oil pan that will cost an unbelievable 900.00 to replace. So many ongoing issues with this vehicle. Never again.
