01 Ford Expedition pushing pedal - car won't go
Asked by eightknivesnine Jun 23, 2016 at 06:04 PM about the 2001 Ford Expedition XLT 4WD
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
I just bought an 01 Ford Expedition for $2500. This is an automatic with 130k
miles on it. Everything worked great, but after I drove it around for an hour
whenever I came to a stop at a light, the car would start shaking (in drive and
Neutral both) and then when I pushed the gas to go again the car would not
go. It wouldn't even rev the engine even though the engine did not die. After I
kept pumping the gas pedal the car would finally start to move and go. Once
you get the car going it had no problems, its only in issue when stopping and
going.

I did plug a scanner into it. Pending code came back as P0442 which I know is a small evap leak based on research, but I'm not seeing anywhere that this would cause sputtering or misfires??
An evap leak absolutely can cause your symptoms. On my 02 expedition I had the same problem. Turned out to be a hole in the PCV tube. The tube runs along the passenger side valve cover and hooks to a fitting on the back of the upper intake. The tube is rigid plastic covered by black insulation. The tube inside had melted and collapsed. I bought one on ebay for $30. Check that tube. Also check the vacuum hose on the EGR valve.

Super helpful, I appreciate it! I am going to look into that! I read that you need to do a smoke test to find the leak cause the hole can be that small. Is this true? I drove the truck around again last night to get it to repeat the symptoms and it seems I need to drive it around for a bit before it gets to that point because it wouldn't happen...
I had to peel back the insulation to find the hole.
