Ford focus still running hot

Asked by Devin Feb 20, 2016 at 10:45 PM about the 2001 Ford Focus ZX3

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2001 Ford focus I have replaced the
thermostat housing and everything and it
still runs hot? Any ideas? I have checked fan
fuses and everything. I can start the car and
let it run for a while and pressure builds up
in the coolant bowl and I released the
pressure and the car wouldn't run hot but
when I cut the car off and start it right back
the Gage says it's running hot? Any ideas to
help me??

Sounds like you need to purge the cooling system of air pockets. Take the radiator cap off when cool, let the car run to operating temp. while it is warming up it may push coolant out the radiator until the thermostat opens up, then add coolant until full, put the cap on when the motor is running.
