Ticking noice on my mustang, no one seems to know or help

bent lifter on No.2~

ok and how is this fixed, is this expensive to fix

but dont understand how the lifter would have gotten bent as all we did is have them change the plugs

don't know what to tell you undertaker2266, all's I can do is react to the trail of breadcrumbs leading to your troubles here...bent lifter is a distinct possibility but really would not know until the valve cover was removed. Not sure m'self, but perhaps this motor was abused while it was not in your possession~ alls I can say is DON'T loan this one out...ever.

get a new valve cover gasket, we'll take a look at your bad side to see just how much work will be needed to correct the problem...could be a camshaft, could be an hydraulic lifter or a pushrod is this one overhead cam?

depends on what's wrong here, but $85/hour is the going greasemonkey rate....cannot tell what you need to do to this motor 'till we can do an inspection of it- angie's list has reputable people that you can read testimonials of actual mechanics to decide what to do on this one.

Its hard to diagnose something over the internet I cant seem to hear the tick from where I am so for anyone on here to able to tell you with absolute certainty what it is. thats not gonna happen. As I recall I tried to give you some ideas and so have other people. To say no one is helping pisses me off. Take it to a shop and get off of here.

Hey Kbro did not mean u guys on here but the shops i took it too, sorry if i gave that impresstion out. You all have done more on here than any shop i have taken it too. I am taking it in now for a complete diagnostic check and will let u all know what they tell me and thanks again for all your help

well found out something got inside the heads and the cylinder is chewed up. Said it must have had something inside it for awhile and with changeing the plugs it made it come up and said it must have been there for a while and was done before i got it so they said its over 3000.00 to fix it and said best thing to do is put a new motor in it. So thanks guys for all your help

so a self-destructing spark plug caused the engine damage...I'd seek litigation and compensation for this motor~

Yes those engines are notorious for spark plug issues. judge_roy, how long you been working on cars? Any mechanic worth his salt would know a 2001 Mustang has an overhead cam engine. For that matter, a pushrod engine wasn't available in a Mustang since 1995!

sorry Mark, a lot of them have OHC, it really means nothing to me and does not stand out as an outstanding characteristic...been fixin' cars since 1979. if you must know. My garage has like 23 cars in it, if you bothered to look, not even all of them are there because am having trouble coming up with images of them....guess I'm not worth a salt in your opinion then, of course your rating was Zero, that doesn't mean beans, but probably just not willing to share what you know for fear of incompetence...proof is in the pudding (or in the lubricant) as it were, and you cannot bullshit your way to the top...bein' right all the time harbors resentment....so let's keep 'em on their toes being EXPERT in all makes and models foreign and domestic...you should try it sometime...doesn't pay nuttin', is just a passtime~

tremendous learning curve comin' up within the last ten years can be easier the more you get acquainted with NO distributor. No Speedo cable No kick-down NO???? get used to it, accept these engineering decisions and with any luck actually understand them~

This is Mark again, on the account I normally use for answering these things. So I thank you for the offer of 10 points, but I've got a nice start on my own. Been working on cars since 1972. I'm a Ford fan(even my youngest son is a mechanic at a local Ford dealership),and seeing this is a question about a Ford I figured I'd contribute my 2 cents worth. sorry if I offended you with the salt remark, so if you're working on everything, you probably don't keep up on one particular make. I don't go into other make forums to answer questions. Like you, I do the best I can to help out other people as a pastime. Some engineering feats I have done on my Fords over the years include putting 351C heads onto a 302 Windsor and swapping a 351c into a 1980 Capri. This was done back around the time you were just starting to fix cars. I do agree with you about the Jasper engines.;)

Thank you and kudos, you have more experience, but we are talking in principals and concepts which can be broken down into similarities between makes, and frankly no one, as described by my Bosch Automotive Handbook (4th ed) strays from what is established, everyone is basically the same four wheels on the ground a wheel for controlling the buggy and a method of stopping the thing, we often get ahead of ourselves by creating various puzzles, in the name of ease of manufacturing or ease of production, but the end user and mechanic who just got his hands cut by one of your spring hose clips because you guys had to save 17 cents ....ooo would add five bucks for handling....can never make it easier on the mechanic **cK 'em, we'll collect the money and take measures to prevent lawsuits~

for example, my MINI cooper has NO locks on the doors or trunk, but the whole universe is controlled by three buttons on the key fob...drop that sucker and you'll be calling the tow truck to take you to your local BMW dealer....this business of pressing more than one button at a time to perform various functions such as resetting the "oil service" back to zero, or many funtions...no one explains them...it's a joke on the end user~

Lol, I'm in Canada, and can relate to those hose clamps!!! When it gets to -30 and colder they don't stay on the power steering return lines very well. Synthetic oil helps, but electric assist steering is a bonus.

my Ford Granada power steering would grab your hands and rip the wheel when it got cold (Wisconsin -17 winters) since moved to a sunny, happy place where everyday is beautiful, and there isn't any salt on the roads to chew up your machine, those clamps which I speak of are "breeze" clamps or screw clamps, you can use an electric drill to do most of the heavy lifting on these and make quick work of it, genius....seen it on second-time replacement hoses....anyways point was if they cared for the servicemen and women who have to deal with this **it on a daily basis, then you'd probably spend the extra seventeen cents to save our fingers and latex gloves~

The plugs could be to long and hitting the tops of the pistons check what kind of plugs they gave you and get the right ones and hopefully they haven't busted anything goodluck
