MIL light came on 2016 this scared me

My 2016 Dodge Dart 11000. Miles
MIL light came on solid yellow I pulled off
checked gas lid it was tight called dodge
service dept.  went in test said it was my
thermostat  told me it take a least 3 hours to
get it done or more ?  Is this correct is it
urgent ?  Can I do this myself ?
