Dte

Asked by 12cats Jul 16, 2016 at 10:49 PM about the 2016 Dodge Grand Caravan American Value Package FWD

Question type: General

I understand that dte means distance til
empty but why does it fluctuate so much?
Is it bc the gas is sloshing around in the
fuel tank? One minute it's reading 51 and
the next it's at 60 and then back down to
54

This isn't a major change in your gas tanks meter if it was from 60 to like down to 30 and 58 constantly changing big values this would be because of your gas tank level sensor but sincw it is changing in low values it is due to the sloshing of the gas in your tank.

The all fluctuate. My Doge Ram, Lincoln MKZ, Infiniti G37X and my leased 2013 F-150 did that. The DTE is constantly being recalculated due to tank level and driving habits.

also, speed and rpm figure in to the computers computations about fuel mileage. for example, 10 gallons of gas will last longer at say 50 miles per hour on a given road than it will at 70 miles per hour on the same drive. the computer has to take all of this into account, thus a fluctuating dte.

I am test driving a 2015 Dodge Caravan. Even after filling it up, the DTE was at 275 miles. Why is that? The Chrysler Town and Country van is will likely replace has always been over 400 miles DTE after filling up, even with city driving.
